SCA Endowed Awards 2011 **Presented at Baccalaureate** Cogswell Award: This fund was established in August 1985 by Arnold Cogswell, a former trustee of the Sage colleges. It is awarded to a Senior who has made a significant impact on the quality of life at SCA and to the Sage community (Campus Life). American Society of Women Accountants: This award was endowed by the American Society of Women Accountants and is awarded to the graduating woman showing the most promise in accounting. Urbach, Hacker, Young Award in memory of Sydney Urbach: This fund was established in 1978 by UHY, formerly Urbach, Kahn & Werlin, in memory of Sidney Urbach and is awarded to the accounting student who shows the greatest promise for a career in public accounting. Ruth C. Eyres Award for Excellence in Marketing and Management: This award was established in January 1989 by a gift from Ruth C. Eyres, a faculty member at Sage. It is awarded to the student who shows the most promise in marketing and management. Helen E. Luffman Award for Physical Education: This award was established for Helen Luffman, RSC 1921 and chair of the Physical Education department by her friend Virginia Harvey, Russell Sage College class of 1935. It is awarded to an outstanding senior physical education major. Martha Karp Palmer Award: This award was established by Lewis Karp in honor of his daughter Martha Karp Palmer. It is awarded to an outstanding nursing student. Rosalyn and Morris Koffman Award: This award, originally called the Rosalyn Koffman Award, was established by Rosalyn Koffman, RSC class of 1966. Rosalyn created this fund while she was a teacher in Sage’s Nursing Department and supported it by collecting discarded recyclable cans and holding book sales. After her death in 1996 her husband, Morris, continued making contributions to the endowment. Upon his death and receipt of a bequest in his will the award name was changed to the Rosalyn and Morris Koffman Award. It is given to a part-time nursing student at senior level, but not necessarily graduating, with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher to help with the incidental costs of attending college. Usher Fine Arts Award: Created by Ann Usher McKay, Russell Sage College, class of 1942 in honor of her mother Helen Stockwell Usher, this award reflects how much Sage means to Ann and honors the gifts she had been given by her mother who showed her how to love others, live life to the fullest and to love art. This award is given to an outstanding SCA Fine Arts student. Martin J. Gieschen Award: This award was established by Ann E. Gieschen, the widow of Marty J. Gieschen. Martin was a faculty member of Sage and served as chair of the Fine Arts Department. It is awarded to a 1st or 2nd year art student whom demonstrates financial need and dedication to his/her work. Johnny F. Black, Jr. SCA ‘ 04 Award: This endowed award was created by Johnny’s family in honor of his graduation and to celebrate his winning Sage’s computer department’s outstanding computer networking award in 2004. It is awarded to an outstanding SCA Computer Science/ Networking student. Looseleaf Law Publications, Inc. Award: presented annually to a criminal justice major or to students in a law-related major whom successfully completed either a 2 year or 4 year program. Student must exhibit dedication and an avid interest beyond the norm.
