Programs for University Students Chinese Bridge World University Chinese Competition The Chinese Bridge Competition is a world-wide contest for university students to demonstrate their talent and passion for the Chinese language as well as to promote understanding between China and the global community. Since its launch in 2002, over 50,000 students from more than 50 countries have participated in this annual competition sponsored by the Office of the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) in Beijing. The Confucius Institute at The University of Queensland and Tourism Confucius Institute at Griffith University host this annual event in May each year. All Queensland university students who are studying the Chinese language and culture are invited to compete for the top prize of a Confucius Institute scholarship covering tuition fees, travel, accommodation and living expenses while representing Queensland in the international finals held in Beijing. Chinese Conversation Groups Do you want to practice your Chinese in a relaxed environment? Why not join us at a fantastic Chinese restaurant in your neighbourhood? We’ll provide a native Chinese teacher and volunteer students to discuss a different topic every two weeks. Anyone who wants to practice their Chinese and learn something about Chinese culture is invited. Chinese Club Practice your Chinese language skills with a native speaker. We meet every Wednesday from 4.00 - 6.00pm on the Gold Coast Campus, International Building, G52_3.24 and every Thursday from 4.00 - 6.00 on the Nathan Campus, N61_2.07. All levels are welcome! Chinese Proficiency Tests (HSK) The new HSK is an international standardized exam that assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives. Interested adults are welcome to register their interest with the Tourism Confucius Institute’s registered test centre. Confucius Institute Scholarships The Confucius Institute’s Scholarship program provides financial aid to students, scholars and Chinese language teachers working towards a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) or pursuing advanced degrees in Chinese Language and Literature, History and/or Philosophy at a Chinese university. Summer Camp in China for Griffith Students Learn Chinese and experience the exhilarating winter weather in China! This two-week program is designed to enhance understanding between Australian and Chinese university students. Through a combination of classroom study and excursions, students will have a unique opportunity to expand their language skills while experiencing China’s rich culture, tradition and history.
