Programs for University Students
Chinese Bridge World University Chinese Competition
The Chinese Bridge Competition is a world-wide contest for university students to demonstrate their talent and
passion for the Chinese language as well as to promote understanding between China and the global community.
Since its launch in 2002, over 50,000 students from more than 50 countries have participated in this annual
competition sponsored by the Office of the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) in Beijing. The
Confucius Institute at The University of Queensland and Tourism Confucius Institute at Griffith University host this
annual event in May each year. All Queensland university students who are studying the Chinese language and
culture are invited to compete for the top prize of a Confucius Institute scholarship covering tuition fees, travel,
accommodation and living expenses while representing Queensland in the international finals held in Beijing.
Chinese Conversation Groups
Do you want to practice your Chinese in a relaxed environment? Why not join us at a fantastic Chinese restaurant in
your neighbourhood? We’ll provide a native Chinese teacher and volunteer students to discuss a different topic
every two weeks. Anyone who wants to practice their Chinese and learn something about Chinese culture is invited.
Chinese Club
Practice your Chinese language skills with a native speaker. We meet every Wednesday from 4.00 - 6.00pm on the
Gold Coast Campus, International Building, G52_3.24 and every Thursday from 4.00 - 6.00 on the Nathan Campus,
N61_2.07. All levels are welcome!
Chinese Proficiency Tests (HSK)
The new HSK is an international standardized exam that assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the
Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives. Interested adults are welcome to register their
interest with the Tourism Confucius Institute’s registered test centre.
Confucius Institute Scholarships
The Confucius Institute’s Scholarship program provides financial aid to students, scholars and Chinese language
teachers working towards a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) or
pursuing advanced degrees in Chinese Language and Literature, History and/or Philosophy at a Chinese university.
Summer Camp in China for Griffith Students
Learn Chinese and experience the exhilarating winter weather in China! This two-week program is designed to
enhance understanding between Australian and Chinese university students. Through a combination of classroom
