About
The VC’s Research Excellence Award (Early Career) recognises an outstanding researcher who is in the first five
years of their research career (that is, within the first five years post-completion of their PhD) whose research
demonstrates potential for high-impact outcomes within the internal and external communities we serve.

Selection criteria

Significant new contribution to knowledge demonstrated by high-impact research publications;

High-impact research outcomes recognised by end-users;

Establishing a significant new research collaboration.

application.
Preparing your nomination
In 2014, all VC’s Awards nominations will be submitted online, however, we strongly recommend that you prepare
your answers in advance using this document. You will then be able to copy and paste your answers from your
Word document into the online form. This will prevent you losing your work in the unlikely case of an internet
connection disruption during the submission process.
Checklist
Before submitting your nomination online, please make sure that you:
 Have checked that all your answers are within the specified word limit as the online program will not
allow you submit answers which exceed the specified word/character limits.
 Have all the information you need on-hand before you begin you submission process (team names,
references/recommendations, relevant dates, etc.)
 Have prepared your answers in plain text only and you have not including any special formatting, graphs
or images as the online program will not be able to incorporate these.
 Have referenced/quoted any supporting evidence as part of your answer rather than as separate
document. Note that the program will not allow you to attach other documents to your nomination (e.g.
reference letters, journal articles or other attachments).
 Have obtained any approvals required for your nomination, including endorsement statements and the
sign-off from your Head of Department/Dean/Senior Executive Director.
