Grading for learning is about MASTERY and providing opportunities for students to reach mastery. Mastery levels
are determined by Cut Scores for EOC tested classes, and Level 5 on MYP / Hillsboro Mastery Rubrics.
Students who display Mastery or higher on a Summative Task have already demonstrated Mastery and may not
increase their grade. Students may retake the assessment for formative feedback / experience.
Students that score below Mastery on Summative Tasks will have additional opportunities, prescribed by the
instructor, to reach Mastery.
a. Additional opportunities may require students to show evidence of any of the following at the discretion of
the instructor(s):
i. Additional study, practice
ii. Completion of unit formatives
iii. Summative corrections
iv. Written reflection
v. Meeting deadlines
vi. Tutoring
vii. Conferences with teacher
viii. Alternative summative
ix. Student scheduling of retakes outside of class time
x. Other items at the discretion of teachers
Scores for additional opportunities will not exceed the established Mastery Score for the course.
a. This allows students to reach mastery and a grade that reflects mastery while also protecting the GPA of
students who excelled with the assessments the first time it was given.
Any missing work will be recorded as a 50 in the gradebook. All grades in the gradebook will utilize the 50-100
point scale for all assignments.
