Farrell-Irons – Thursday, 1940 Miss Lucille Farrell Wed to Perry Irons In Impressive Ceremony Thursday Uniting two well-known Alva families was the marriage of Miss Claudia Lucille Farrell and Perry Irons at 7 o’clock Thursday evening. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Farrell while Mr. Irons is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Irons. Pre-nuptial music was played by Kenneth Farrell, brother of the bride. Selections included “Liebestraum,” Liszt; “Kamennoir-Ostrow,” Rubenstein; “Under the Leaves,” Thome. During the prelude Miss Merrilou Farrell, sister of the bride, lighted the candles. She wore a sky-blue organdy, frock. “I Love You Truly,” Carrie-Jacobs-Bond, as sung by Mrs. D. W. Pierce, accompanied by Mr. Farrell. The bridal party entered to the strains of “Bridal Chorus” from “Lohengrin,” Wagner. Miss Laura Bess Wasson, Muskogee, maid-of-honor, wore a navy blue crepe street dress with white accessories. Her corsage was of orchid gladioli. Maurice Irons, brother of the bridegroom, served as best man. The bride, entering on the arm of her father, chose an olive green tailored dress, patterned with basque waist, gored skirt, and sweetheart neckline. She wore a gold wishbone pin presented her by her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mattie Farrell, for “something old” and carried a white lace handkerchief of her mother’s for “something borrowed.” Her corsage was of picardi gladioli. Vows for the single ring ceremony were read by Rev. M. F. Langley, pastor of the Alva Baptist church, in front of an altar improvised of greenery and garden flowers. White gates swinging away from the mantel banked with tall baskets of gladioli and marigolds and backed by ferns were topped by white tapers in crystal candelabra. Indirect lighting lent illusion to the scene. At a reception immediately following the ceremony, Mrs. Farrell, the bride’s mother wore a navy blue sheer redingote while the bridegroom’s mother wore a dark blue net afternoon frock trimmed with white. Mrs. Ronald Kletke assisted the bride in serving the wedding cake. Mrs. Edna Long presided at the punch bowl, while Miss Bernice Schooley conducted registering of guests. Others invited for the occasion were Rev. and Mrs. Langley, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Woodward, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Pierce, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Freiden of Waynoka, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Stellman of Manito, Mrs. Mattie Ferrell, Arlington, Washington, Mrs. P. E. Irons, Dacoma, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Kletke, Miss Maxine Darden, and Mr. Irons. For traveling Mrs. Irons chose an ecru suit of tweed-skin with which she wore brown accessories. Following a wedding trip to Houston and points on the Gulf of Mexico, the couple will be at home at 617 Third Street. Mrs. Irons was graduated from Alva high school in 1937 and will graduate from Northwestern State college in 1942. She is president of Pi Kappa Sigma, social sorority. Mr. Irons who is connected with the Zenith Gas Company is a graduate of Northwestern.
