Educational Advancement Scholarships for
Critical and Acute Care Nurses
Undergraduate and Graduate Study for RN’s
Program Description
Educational advancement scholarships advance the art and science of critical care nursing
and promote nursing professionalism. The scholarships support Jersey Shoreline Chapter
AACN members who are registered nurses completing baccalaureate degree in nursing,
and graduate or doctoral degree which will enhance contributions to nursing and health
care. Scholarship recipients will receive a minimum of $250.00. The funds are awarded
directly to the recipient. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Funds
awarded may be in addition to any tuition reimbursement or other scholarship awards.
Criteria
Applicants must be registered nurse members of the Jersey Shoreline Chapter of AACN.
Successful applicants describe how their nursing practice will change as a result of the
pursuant degree.
Deadline
Applications must be received on or before April 30, 2013, to be considered.

Jersey Shoreline AACN member
Active RN license
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better
Previous recipients of educational advancement scholarships are eligible to
reapply, but may receive no more than a total of $1500.00.
Jersey Shoreline Chapter committee members participating in the review process
are ineligible
Additional Requirements
BSN:
 Current enrollment in an NLN-accredited baccalaureate program in nursing
Graduate:
 Graduate of a baccalaureate degree program
 Current enrollment in a planned course of graduate study leading to a masters or
doctoral degree
General Information
All applications must be received on or before April 30, 2013. All required supporting
documents must accompany the application. Please do not mail them separately.
Incomplete or late applications will not be reviewed. Please type or print all information
on the application form.
Applications received by April 30, 2013 are reviewed to verify eligibility. Those
applications meeting the criteria are blind-reviewed by members of the Scholarship
Committee. Awards are competitive with recipients selected on the basis of the
applicant’s response in the narrative section on the form enclosed with this application.
The names of the recipients and their institutions are published in the Jersey Shoreline
Chapter newsletter, as well as on the chapter website.
Required Supporting Documents
Official transcripts of all course work completed. Grade reports will be accepted only for
the most recent semester or quarter. Jersey Shoreline Chapter requires accompanying
transcript to be official documents from the college or university stamped with the
official seal and in a sealed envelope.
An enrollment verification letter from the Dean of Nursing, dated within the last 6
months, verifying status in an NLN accredited nursing program for the upcoming
semester is required. Three copies each of enclosed Narrative Section.
Scholarship Narrative Guidelines
Applicants must complete the Narrative Section.
Narratives describe how the application sees their nursing practice changing as a result of
their degree.
Narratives must be typed, double-spaced, at least 11 font sized, and no more than 1 page
in length. Those responses that exceed the requirement will not be reviewed.
Do not list your name on the Narrative Section, as they are blind reviewed.
Three (3) copies of the Narrative Section accompany the application.
Narrative sections are blind-reviewed by members of the Jersey Shoreline Chapter
Scholarship Committee / Officers using the following criteria:
Excellent (4)
Good (3)
Fair (2)
Poor (1)
a. Clarity and incorporation of theme throughout
b. Quality of essay: organization, development of concepts, grammar,
vocabulary, neatness, punctuation, sentence structure
c. Creativity and originality
d. Strength of commitment and personal statement conveyed by essay
The Narrative Section scoring the most points will be selected.
The recipients will be notified by May 13, 2013.
