Creating a Chapter Scholarship
Getting Started:
1. Form a scholarship committee.
Have committee come up with guidelines such as selection process, criteria for applicant application, and
application checklist . Committee would be responsible for contacting schools, meeting with students, and for
promotion and coordination of the award.
2. Decide what kind of scholarship:
Scholarship awarded directly to a student.
Scholarship awarded directly to a college or university.
Note: If donating directly to a college or University they may handle the student application process.
3. Set a goal:
How much money will your chapter raise for scholarships? How will your chapter achieve this goal?
4. Research schools in your area.
They, together with the committee can coordinate in selecting the best type and amount of gift to donate.
Ideas to collect money for award:
1. Raffle:
Sell 50/50 Raffle tickets at every meeting, 50 % to the raffle pot winner, 50 % to the scholarship fund.
2. Send Scholarship solicitation letters to membership:
Solicit your chapter membership to donate money to the scholarship fund to help your chapter reach its goal.
3. Solicit hotels and/or clubs in the area:
Create a scholarship fund donation form and do a mailing to hotels/clubs in that area.

HFTP is a Global association dedicated to enhance the practice of professional hospitality accounting, financial
management, technology management, and hospitality information processing. <CHAPTER NAME> is dedicated to
acquiring funds for students who exhibit academic excellence, leadership, and communicate a desire to learn more
about hospitality-related programs. The <CHAPTER NAME> supports students by awarding annual scholarships.
Scholarship Criteria:
1. Applicants must major in hospitality management, accounting, or MIS with at least one semester remaining
(school year beginning <MONTH> through MONTH) after the scholarship is awarded in MONTH.
2. Institution must grant a degree in accounting, MIS, or hospitality field.
3. Applicant must demonstrate academic excellence in college programs and have a GPA of at least ____.
4. Applicants must demonstrate interest in a career in hospitality management, accounting or MIS. They must be
enrolled and have completed their freshman year in a college or university.
5. Applicant must be taking at least __ credit hours in the current semester.
6. Applicants receive credit for community involvement such as activities associated with student hospitality
organizations, voluntary, church, charitable, or political organizations.
7. Successful applicants will receive their scholarship at the local HFTP meeting on DATE.
