Janie Harrell Scholarship Named after Janie Harrell, one of the founders of NCAHAM, this scholarship was established in September 1992 to assist members in their educational endeavors in an allied health care field. Amount of Scholarship The scholarship award will be in the amount of $500.00, payable to the college and may be applied to tuition only. Criteria for eligibility Must be an active NCAHAM member Must be a Patient Access Manager or equivalent position in a related field. Must be accepted for enrollment in an allied health education program in an accredited university or college, having successfully completed the first year of a program. Must have maintained a “B” or above in their first year. All course work must be related to the attainment of a healthcare or management degree. Documents The following must be returned with the completed application: Two letters of reference – one from your university and one from your organizational leader (supervisor, CEO, etc.) A letter of acceptance from the school A transcript of grades from the previous year The name and address of the individual at the college to whom the money is to be sent, if awarded the scholarship Other Data If two or more applicants are equally qualified, the one with the highest grade point average shall be awarded the scholarship. If the student drops out of school, all remaining funds shall be returned to the treasurer of NCAHAM If the student changes the field of study to one outside the healthcare field all remaining funds shall be returned to the treasurer of NCAHAM Notification The winner will be informed by telephone, with written confirmation sent. Letter will also notify the school where the student is enrolled. A check will be issued to the school in the winner’s name, with a request that the school provide written proof of receipt for NCAHAM record-keeping purposes. The member selected to receive the scholarship will be announced at the NCAHAM Annual Conference.
