Intermediate and Senior Project Award Guidelines Revised August 2013 Awards can be earned for individual project areas. A project is an overall area (which includes specific exhibits). Project Area Awards Earned: Bronze, Silver, or Gold Intermediate and Senior members can add a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award in a specific project area more than once if the requirements are meet. Evaluations will be based on submittal of 3 years of project work. Earlier years need not be submitted. Explanation of Areas & Awards Citizenship (helping others) Leadership (teaching others) Communication ( presentation, teach and learning) Communication Criteria: Club Level: All 4-Hers, except first year members, must do a club presentation. Communications beyond the club level (county, area/district, state, national), include, for example: giving an oral speech in school that is project related, published written material & posters, a written article for the newspaper for National 4-H week, a written article for the 4-H newsletter, create & display poster promoting 4-H and being interviewed about 4-H on the radio. Other Awards for Intermediates & Seniors – Must be nominated by club leader Outstanding Record Book – books will be judged against other Intermediate at that level and Senior books against others at the level. This award may be won only once per level. Animal Science Round-up – record books and county activities will be judged. 4-Hers may only attend once in each species: beef, swine, dairy, horse, and sheep. The Osceola County 4-H Foundation will award the winners with a scholarship to attend Round-up. Outstanding Officers Book – this award is given to an overall Osceola County Club Officer (Secretary, Treasurer and Historian) for excellent record keeping. Special Awards for Intermediates & Seniors – Must be nominated by club leader Citizenship – recognizes youth who have learned and demonstrated the meaning of citizenship through their daily lives and beyond the local club. (must have completed the 10th grade, 3 yrs of 4-H, and have project worksheet in project area included in records) Leadership – recognizes youth who have learned and demonstrated leadership skills beyond the local club. (must have completed the 10th grade, 3 yrs of 4-H, and have project worksheet in project area included in records) Achievement – recognizes youth who have shown outstanding personal growth, citizenship, and character through participation in a variety of 4-H project areas. (must have completed the 10th grade, 3 yrs or 4-H, , and have project worksheet in project area included in records) Merit – recognizes any intermediate or senior member who has shown outstanding personal growth through active citizenship, earned community respect, club leadership, and has given unselfish service to others. Agriculture – recognizes youth who have grown personally through participation in a wide variety of agricultural programs and projects. (must have completed the 11th grade, 3 years in agricultural programs & projects, and provided leadership in an agriculture project area & activities beyond the local club. Ak-Sar-Ben Leadership Award – recognizes intermediate and senior members who have learned and exhibited leadership qualities beyond the local club. Danforth “I Dare You” – recognizes members who have shown growth in 4-H project areas as well as exhibited unselfish service to others in both their club and community. (current high school Sophomores and Juniors are eligible) Outstanding 4-H Member – Blahauvietz Award – senior members who have completed the 11th grade and have shown outstanding work in project areas as well as leadership beyond their club. The member should be involved with their church, school and community activities.
