Citation Henri E. Goettel Youth in Philanthropy Award In recognition of 10 years of distinguished volunteer service as advisor to the Truman Heartland Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council, we are pleased to announce the establishment of the Henri E. Goettel Youth in Philanthropy Award on this day Thursday, June 12, 2008. The exemplary service of Henri E. Goettel as advisor to the Youth Advisory Council culminates a long and distinguished career in education and reflects great credit upon herself and the Truman Heartland Community Foundation. Therefore from this day forward, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Truman Heartland Community Foundation, an annual $500 award will be presented in her honor to an outstanding senior Youth Advisory Council member according to criteria of her choosing. Whereby, the first Henri E. Goettel Youth in Philanthropy Award will be presented in 2009. The Community Foundation strongly believes in increasing charitable giving and engaging the next generation of youth in philanthropy. Henri’s passion for lifelong learning and her personal commitment to philanthropy and leadership has helped bring the Community Foundation’s vision to fruition. Goettel Youth in Philanthropy Award This $500 award will be given annually, beginning in the spring of 2009, to a YAC member graduating from high school. The award will be deposited in the postsecondary school account of the selected student in order to offset first semester tuition expenses. To be eligible for consideration, a YAC member must have 1. Been a YAC member throughout the entire junior and senior years of high school; 2. Been in the top 5% of perks-earners during the junior year and senior year of high school; 3. Demonstrated leadership by serving successfully as a team leader, committee leader, or project leader during his/her YAC membership 4. Taken an active part in growing YAC’s endowment by serving on the donor presentation team or participating in other fund development activities 5. Taken an active part in getting to know the Foundation’s partner agencies through participation in National Youth Service Day, individual community service, and/or site visits The selection of the recipient will be determined by a committee consisting of one Foundation board member, one Foundation staff member, and Ms. Goettel, with Ms. Goettel having the final recommendation.
