Board of Directors Position Descriptions
Provide emerging nonprofit leaders with opportunities for professional development,
education, and networking, while promoting a continuing dialog among nonprofits in the
Grand Rapids region.
Board Structure
Chair (2)
The board chairs work closely to guide the overall operations of YNPN of Grand Rapids,
encouraging and overseeing the work of the board, committees and the activities of
YNPN of Grand Rapids through energetic leadership and strategic leadership skills.
Secretary (1)
The secretary is responsible for certifying and keeping all original copies of the bylaws of
YNPN of Grand Rapids and ensuring current copies of the bylaws, policies, and
procedures are provided to the board. The individual in this position is also responsible
for ensuring all board members receive board minutes, action items, and agendas for
board members. This individual will work closely with the board chairs to ensure YNPN
of Grand Rapids is providing board members with development opportunities.
Treasurer (2)
The treasurer is responsible for overall health and financial wellness of YNPN of Grand
Rapids: preparing and managing the annual budget; presenting monthly financial reports;
managing expenses and reimbursements; and ensuring overall compliance of YNPN of
Grand Rapids finances.
Marketing and Communications (2)
The marketing and communications chairs market all YNPN of Grand Rapids events and
programs, and manage the organizational brand. The marketing and communications
chairs will also work closely with the membership chairs to develop communications for
outreach to young nonprofit professionals.
Membership (2)
The membership chair helps build financial support for YNPN of Grand Rapids through
membership recruitment. These board members will also work closely to track all YNPN
of Grand Rapids members, recruit new members, and seek new benefits for members.
Development (1)
The development chair helps build financial support for YNPN of Grand Rapids through
sponsors and donations.
Educational Programming (2)
The educational programming chairs plan and implement monthly conversation starters
and lunch time educational programming.
Partnership and Recognition (2)
The partnership and recognition chairs work closely to plan and implement the YNPN
Leadership Awards and other partnership programs. This committee is also responsible
for extending opportunities for new partnerships with YNPN of Grand Rapids.
Members-at-Large (3)
The Members-at-Large serve on the board as a representative of the members of the
board and on one committee of the board. This position is intended to provide members
an opportunity to get to know the YNPN of Grand Rapids board through a one year term.
Requirements
Is committed to attending regular board meetings.
Is a member of YNPN of Grand Rapids
Serves a two year commitment, according to bylaw specification or a one year
term as a member-at-large
4. Is committed to upholding the mission and vision of YNPN of Grand Rapids,
furthering the organization, and abiding by the bylaws

Will serve as liaison to the YNPN National Board and for other YNPN chapters in
Michigan, as well as EPIP Michigan. Serve as liaison to any community and
fiscal sponsors
Will serve as contact for all committees
Regularly seeks out and connects with new community partners, as well as annual
sponsors

of YNPN membership for their employees in their 20s and 30s
11. Act as YNPN representatives at all events to answer questions and introduce
speakers

Sets officer meeting dates, times, and places
Puts together agenda for board and officer meetings
Sends task alerts out to board members following each regular board meeting
Maintains records of the board and officers, and ensures effective management of
organizational records
Manages minutes at board and officer meetings
Ensures minutes are distributed to members shortly after each meeting
Keeps event and meeting attendance records
Keeps track of all organizational records for archive
Works with membership committee to ensure a proper record of all members is
kept
