NEXT EVENT: Aug. 20 - Associate's Luncheon at AIA Offices - 30 N. 3rd Avenue, Suite 200, Phoenix, AZ 85003 1) Introduction of Associates Luncheons: Attendees introduced them self and Charnissa Moore, AIA Membership coordinator, noted that Associates are invited to meet for monthly lunches not only for discussion and support but as a great way to get to know both other members and AIA office staff. 2) AIA Arizona Associate State Conference Description: reported by Charnissa Moore - charnissa@aia-arizona.org Save the date – Coming next month! Friday August 28th, from 10am to 4pm at AIA Arizona Offices (30 N. 3rd Avenue, Suite 200, Phoenix, AZ 85003). Invitation will be sent out by the end July. Surviving in a changing world – Slogan of the Conference. Public speaking with ideas geared towards associates. Two panels are scheduled; one will expose alternative opportunities for difficult times. “Thinking out of the box”, another panel will be will hold by NCARB and ABTR representatives. Included events – Recognition to newly registered architects and a happy hour will be hosted as part of the associate conference. Attendance – Last year’s conference was attended by more than 60 people, come early to save a seat! 3) Associate Help with Architectural Licensure: reported by Charnissa Moore - charnissa@aia-arizona.org ARE Study Material - It is available for a one week check out at the AIA Arizona Office. Kaplan books, flashcards and other related reference books are part of the library. Call or email Charnissa to verify availability. “Paper Party” - Coming on Friday September 11th from 12 to 4pm @ AIA Arizona Office. This event will assist associates on filling paperwork for IDP/testing/licensure process. Plan to have the event twice a year (spring/fall, next one scheduled for March. Facebook - Group continues growing. Looking for a better way to keep everyone informed when articles, invitations, etc. coming from members are posted in the wall. Due to notifications are not send to all group members. Question about AIA communication procedures was raised. For the moment it is advised to associates to visit the site once a week to be in the loop of information and social networking events. Members are encouraged to post in the wall and the discussion panels interesting activities /events related to our profession (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=74845547756). 5) Comradeship: Welcoming Group – Proposed to have a welcoming committee to contact new associate members to send personal invites to join associates luncheons and events. Discussed if it will be necessary to have a title for the person in charge of contacting new members. August Associates Lunch – Members agreed to have the August lunch meeting the Thursday prior to the State conference, will be held Thurs., Aug. 20 @ AIA Office from 12-1. Details will be emailed and posted on facebook.
