Now Accepting Submissions for the 2011 AIA Diversity Recognition Program The AIA Diversity Recognition Program seeks to recognize architects for exemplary commitment and contributions to diversifying the profession of architecture. Up to twelve submissions will be selected to be recognized as Diversity Best Practices. An award will be presented to each selected recipient, whose diversity efforts will be featured in AIA publications, on the AIA web site, and in the Architect’s Knowledge Resource. Click here for more information. 13.3% – An Open Call Exhibition The exhibition 13.3%… borrows from the conceptual structure of curator Lucy Lippard’s landmark 1973 exhibition of conceptual art, c. 7,500, e and Design, are holding a two-stage Ideas Challenge, focusing on providing permanent solutions to the rebuilding of infrastructu re, cities, neighborho ods and structures for residents of Haiti affected by the recent catastrophi c natural disaster. Students and emerging professiona ls in the design disciplines will propose solutions for review by a professiona l jury. Bridging the Gap: Using Architecture and Social Justice to Increase Access to Universal Design The Bridging the Gap Project, an initiative of the IDeA Center (Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access) and funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, aims to increase awareness and knowledge for the next generation of architects about design for a pluralistic population including those often underrepresented like people who have disabilities, health conditions, low incomes, older people and children. Bridging the Gap provides HBCU architecture departments an opportunity to develop their curricula on universal/inclusive design to improve the lives and welfare of America’s urban and rural underserved communities.
