The agreed upon moms were eager to accept. The new students' parents were contacted and welcomed. A joint parent coffee was held with the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades followed by a room mother meeting. The 5th grade parents assisted with the Honors Convocation by providing food and servers. 6th Grade, Ashley Smith No Report. 7th Grade, Goldie Burkholder and Deanna Graham July 13th – Assisted Dana Stewart and 6th and 8th grade reps in hosting new student/buddy meet and greet for new middle school students. August 11th – Attended Grade Rep Meeting at UMS-W conducted by Ladye Alford. August 16th – Assisted in hosting middle/upper school breakfast for new students. August 31st – Provided waters to parents for Upper School Parents’ Night. Done with grade reps from 8th grade. September 7th – Hosted Middle School Coffee along with the grade reps from 6th and 8th grade. 8th Grade, Julie McLeod and Vicky Bedsole We held our parents' coffee with the 6th and 7th grade on September 7th. 9th Grade, Kim Summersell and Mary Casteix 10th Grade, Jessica King and Trudy Cornwell The 9th, 10th and 11th grade coffee was held on August 24th. Minutes from the meeting were emailed to the parents. The 10th grade is in charge of the Senior Investiture reception on Thursday, September 15th at 9:50 a.m. We still need people to serve at this reception. We will have a meeting on Tuesday, September 20th at 7:45 a.m. to discuss the 10th grade fundraiser. Please make every effort to attend. We got volunteers for Prom, Break Parties, Teacher Appreciation,Homecoming, and two receptions. 12th Grade, Elizabeth Diehl and Mandy Rogers The Senior Class enjoyed their White Shirt Breakfast on the first day of school. The Seniors and their sponsors are looking forward to Senior Investiture tomorrow morning, followed by their first off campus lunch. Mrs. Hale's class won for submitting 403 box tops. Grace Elliott from Mrs. Funk's K-4 class won for being the student that collected the most box tops (222). Overall we collected more than 5,500 box tops! The next collection date will be October 21. Bulldog Run, Kim Sewell and Kathy Chavers Our new date for the run this year is Dec. 10th, 2011. It will still be on a Saturday morning like prior years. We are excited about the new date as we can take advantage of a Christmas theme and hopefully have better participation being during the Holiday season. We have already got some exciting plans in the works for this years event! Constitution and Bylaws, Stephanie Alexander Environmental Liaison, Claudia Anez Faculty, Administration and Staff Appreciation Lower School, Mona Lyons In August, the Upper School, Middle School, and Lower School Faculty/Staff Appreciation Committee hosted the New Teacher Orientation Breakfast and the Faculty/Staff Luncheon.On Wednesday, September 14, we will host our first monthly "snack table" for this year for faculty and staff to stop by and pick something to eat. If anyone would like to volunteer to drop off food in the coming months for this project, please email me at m.lyonsmd@gmail.com Middle School, Melissa Wallace Upper School, Brooke Guesnard and Kelly Williams Fine Arts Liaison Visual Art, Laurel Wagner We will have an exhibit in the Moorer Gallery featuring the works of our Middle School artists. All students in grades 6-8 who take a visual art elective will be represented in the show, so we do hope all their parents will drop by to see their art. The show will hang from homecoming week through October. We have “stools” in the Lower School art room. It looks a lot different now! All of the lower school students are super excited about our art room! Encourage parents to peek in! Band, Laura Doran The band has been busy this summer representing UMS in summer competition and camps. The Sounds of South sponsored by Yamaha at the University of South Alabama was attended by 8 students, the most brought by any one school. Drum major Thomas Wilson and assistant drum major/ band vice president Jacob Cooke attended Drum Major Camp at Southern Mississippi University, learning many skills which they have brought back to UMS. Fall fundraiser this year is Bag It and will be presented at this meeting. There are a wide variety of items from I-Pod covers to garment bags. Please spend the word!
