City Treasurer’s Black History Month Essay Competition 2013 Scholarship Application General Information The City Treasurer’s Office of Chicago is the custodian and manager of all cash and investments of the City of Chicago. Each year the City Treasurer’s Office sponsors a Black History Month Essay Competition. The winner of this competition will receive a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship to support the cost of attending the first year of college. The check will be issued to the college where student enrolls in the fall of 2013. Eligibility Requirements Applicants must meet the following requirements: Must be a senior enrolled in a Chicago Public School high school Plan to enroll in an accredited two-or-four-year institution of higher education or educational institution in the fall of 2013 Minimum high school g.p.a. of 2.5 Minimum of 50 hours of community service (documented on high school transcript) Required Documentation: Official high school transcript Letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or college coach who is familiar with student’s academic work College Letter of Acceptance Respond to the following essay questions (no more than 500 words each, typed, double-spaced. Be sure to include your name and CPS ID number on the top right corner of each page). 1. 2. Please describe your college plans for fall of 2013. Include the institution you plan to attend, your intended major, how you plan to pay for school-related costs (i.e., tuition, room, board, textbooks, airfare, etc.). “How have Chicago’s Black entrepreneurs shaped the city’s history, and what lessons from them inspire you?” Incomplete applications will not be evaluated past the deadline.
