1. All applications (including art entries) must include:
• A 500-750 word original essay (2-3 pages double spaced, Times New Roman, 12-pt font).
As a new employee of a state natural resources agency, your supervisor requests that you develop a
letter outlining the potential impacts of fracking on fisheries and wildlife resources, including
migrations, propagation, and management. The letter will be forwarded to the head of the agency and
possibly the governor to develop state policy. Your counterpart in Department of Health is dealing
with public health issues so you are to restrict your concerns to natural resources. Research what has
been found in locations with a high incidence of fracking to develop your thesis and write the letter.
Include references from at least 3 peer-reviewed research articles; other Internet sources may also be
used, but they are in addition to the research articles. The best essays (“letters” in this case) begin
with a strong thesis that is developed and supported using your sources: Intro/Thesis →
discuss/support topic A → topic B → topic C → conclusions/recommendations.
• A 1-2–page résumé outlining your education, honors and awards, qualifications, and work
experience. References are not necessary.
2. I am submitting artwork for the Schwartz Art Scholarship (art applicants are also required to submit an
essay):
Yes
No
Submit work to 303-S ABNR before the application deadline. Present your work in a professional format
(no loose, untitled, or unlabeled photos or artwork). Recipient is responsible for creating the F&W
Scholarship Board in 303 ABNR.
3. SNR Activities: List all campus conservation extracurricular activities you regularly attend and describe your
level of participation in each.
4. List study abroad, internship, or volunteer experiences you have had in the conservation field or in the
F&W degree program and describe how they have contributed to your environmental education.
5.
Financial Need (NOTE: some of the awards require a demonstrated financial need. If applicable, make sure
your FAFSA application is up to date through Financial Aid):
Do you work while attending school?
If so, where and what kind of work do you do?
How many hours worked per week?
What financial needs require you to work?
6. By submitting this application, I confirm that all information is correct and that the essay and any
artwork I submit is my original creation. I agree to write a thank you letter to the scholarship
sponsor(s) upon notification of any award and to provide the SNR Student Services Office a copy of
that letter. I also agree to attend the November CAFNR Scholarship Banquet and fulfill any other
specified requirements for the award I receive.
