FISHERIES & WILDLIFE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION Deadline: 5 pm Monday 30 March 2015 (FIRM) Name: MU Student Number: Home Town and state: Major area(s) of interest (check one or rank choices): Fisheries ___ Wildlife ___ Water Quality ___ Dual Degree: F&W and Forestry ___ or F&W and other (_________) ___ Captive Wild Animal Management ___ Anticipated Graduation Date: 1. All applications (including art entries) must include: • A 500-750 word original essay (2-3 pages double spaced, Times New Roman, 12-pt font). As a new employee of a state natural resources agency, your supervisor requests that you develop a letter outlining the potential impacts of fracking on fisheries and wildlife resources, including migrations, propagation, and management. The letter will be forwarded to the head of the agency and possibly the governor to develop state policy. Your counterpart in Department of Health is dealing with public health issues so you are to restrict your concerns to natural resources. Research what has been found in locations with a high incidence of fracking to develop your thesis and write the letter. Include references from at least 3 peer-reviewed research articles; other Internet sources may also be used, but they are in addition to the research articles. The best essays (“letters” in this case) begin with a strong thesis that is developed and supported using your sources: Intro/Thesis → discuss/support topic A → topic B → topic C → conclusions/recommendations. • A 1-2–page résumé outlining your education, honors and awards, qualifications, and work experience. References are not necessary. 2.
