MISSION: The International Human Rights Funders Group is a global network of grantmakers
committed to advancing human rights around the world through effective philanthropy.
POSITION: IHRFG seeks an exceptional Membership and Communications Associate to support a group
of funders as diverse and complex as our acronym. Through membership support, communications, and
broader network-building, this position acts as a key liaison for IHRFG members in the dynamic field of

The Membership and Communications Associate is:
 Part welcoming committee: coordinating IHRFG’s member relationships by welcoming new
members, responding to queries, and identifying opportunities for engagement
 Part encyclopedia: serving as a clearinghouse of member knowledge
 Part matchmaker: identifying common interests and practices to build connections among
funders and sharing resources with external networks and outlets
 Part gatekeeper: responding to queries regarding IHRFG, membership and member institutions

development efforts, including grant applications and reporting

 Part team captain: coordinating staff support for Working Groups focused on specific topics in
human rights grantmaking
 Part accuracy aficionado: overseeing support staff in administrative work, including IHRFG’s
member databases, and catching pesky errors that might go unnoticed by a lesser candidate
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
 Two to three years experience and demonstrable interest in human rights, social justice,
philanthropy, or a related field
 Ability to herd cats, follow up compulsively but cordially, and juggle multiple balls (and tasks and
deadlines) without dropping one
 Inclusive, community-focused, and unfailingly flexible. Experience working with networks,
associations, or audiences with diverse needs a plus!
 Meticulously – even obsessively – detail-oriented, organized, and resourceful
 Willingness to think big, rock the boat, and suggest a change of course
 Ability to take initiative, ask questions, learn quickly, and work effectively within a small team
 Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, web and social media platforms (Twitter,
Wordpress, and/or Drupal), databases and spreadsheets
 Positive, “can-do” attitude and sense of humor!
