New Funding Priorities!
In 2007, the Friends of Doernbecher
committed to raising $2 million for the
Pediatric Emergency Department Renovation
by June of 2010. That pledge will be met this
coming fall, due to the outstanding fundraising
abilities of Friends chapters and committees!
The new Friends of Doernbecher Pediatric
Emergency Department Grand Opening
Celebration was held April 5 and everyone
from Dr. Stacy Nicholson, Chief of Pediatrics at
Doernbecher, to Sue Nicol, Executive Director
of the Doernbecher Foundation, to Senator
Ron Wyden was there to thank Friends for
their incredible dedication to the children and
families of this region.
Friends of Doernbecher Grant Program
$100,000 per year
The funding for the grant program was
increased in 2009 from $75,000 to $100,000
per year. These grants are awarded by a
committee of Friends members every year to
Doernbecher faculty and staff to pursue
research or develop projects and programs at
the hospital
Pediatric Emergency Department Renovation
$2,000,000 over three-year period
This commitment will be completed in Fall
2009! The new space includes a separate
waiting room and triage room, kid-friendly
theme areas, and state-of-the-art equipment.
Doernbecher Epilepsy Monitoring Program
$1,000,000 over three-year period
This program was identified by the hospital as
the highest priority for them at the moment.
Friends funds will create a dedicated space at
the hospital, hire a second pediatric
neurologist specializing in epilepsy, and equip
the department with the most up to date
monitoring equipment.
Spring Cleaning?
So, what do we do when we’re ahead of
schedule?
Fund more fantastic hospital
projects!
In April, the Friends of Doernbecher voted on
and approved the following funding priorities
for their fundraising events during the 20092012 period:
Family Resource Library
$75,000 per year
The Family Resource Library provides
information and services in support of the
partnership between parents, children and
healthcare providers in family-centered care.
Do you have a mini fridge sitting in your garage
or basement that you don’t use but don’t
know what to do with? Instead of trying to sell
it at a garage sale, donate it to the
Doernbecher Foundation! We are currently
looking for a mini fridge and would be happy
to give you a Gift-in-Kind receipt for your
donation. That’s right – you could get rid of
the mini fridge AND get a tax write-off at the
same time! Contact Megan if you are
interested.
Do you read Good Housekeeping?
This coupon was in the April issue of Good
Housekeeping. Sharon Graalum, member of
Felicity Chapter of Friends of Doernbecher and
the Friends Board, is collecting these coupons
to use to purchase stuffed animals for the
hospital. If you have the April issue of Good
Housekeeping and haven’t used the coupon
yet, please mail it to Megan Bulger at the
Doernbecher Foundation so Sharon can use it
for her project. Thank you!
