Fifth Grade team: Renee Strehle, Liz Corson, and Carrie Ferraro are across the hall to assist
you. Janelle Bonhomme is at the other end of the hall – rm 312. Kate is the assistant that
usually takes care of homework. Sandy or Donna is usually around to assist, but need to focus
attention on Taylor.
Computer log-in username SRSGUEST, password SRS100 go to my site
www.wssd.org/e.mcelroy to find sub plans and any necessary links. Purple/White flash drive
has documents for you to project.
Check red folder in left drawer to see IEPs and special notes.
Necessary teacher materials are on countertop.
Classroom key should be in top right drawer.
My 10:25 and 12:00 plans may be getting switched. Check with MC Petras.
8:45 – 9:00 Homeroom:
Colin will take care of the lunch count, and Abby will take attendance. Have students write in
their writer’s notebook to get settled.

I usually save worksheets for homework and do most things as a class by projecting on the
Smartboard. There are two files on the flash drive labeled classwork and homework.

158-159 Give students time to work then go over when most are done.

If more work is needed have students work on unfinished workbook pages from Chapter 3 with
partners.
10:25 -11:15 Reading Street Unit 2 – At the Beach – Red and Blue pages
Day 1 –It’s okay if you don’t get to everything. We have a tendency to get into some really rich
discussions. The rule I usually follow is that once we get on a tangent from a tangent, we stop
the conversation and get back on track – no matter how interesting it is!
 Have a student log onto the main computer, go to www.pearsonsuccessnet.com and
project the videos for this lesson from the To Do list.

Spelling Pretest on yellow paper. – Then project the list and have students copy into their
planners.
Jump to Yellow pages after Day 5 for small group work. Use Advance level prompts and books.
(2 students / book) Our Essential Oceans - Reading and answering questions may take multiple
days.

Unplug Ipads’ white line to plug in blue line. Do not unplug green or main power cords already

working on pop-up books or read independently.

 Differentiated Instruction – Advanced activity is storytelling. We recently practiced this
skill as a class and I think they would enjoy breaking into pairs to do it again. Feel free
to call on someone that really does it well to share.

Fall Writing Assessment. Students get 1 hour to Revise, Edit, and Publish final copy.
2:30 – 3:15 Personality Sphere project – students answer each question on a triangle, cut out
the circles and make sphere following sample pattern. Have students use gluesticks and
paperclips to hold the pieces together as the glue dries. Do not send them home.
Friday: Math Olympiad
Give students 25 minutes to complete, collect, then go over problems.
10:15-10:30 SSR
10:30 -11:15 Guidance Lesson – Mrs. K. will come in and teach.
11:15 – 12:00 Finish Personality Spheres or National Geographic magazine
12:00 – 12:45 Tech Lab – Students work independently on pearsonsuccessnet.com activities or
finish any unfinished work from the week. (Pop-up books, artifact paragraph, etc.)
12:45 – 1:30 Lunch (Pick up outside on tennis courts)
1:30 - 2:30 Gifted Students go to Seminar. Others can finish any unfinished work from the
week, read, write, or draw. Suggest how they can add any final touches to things already
finished to make it better.
2:30 – 3:15 Special - Art
Have students teach you “Double and Out” to dismiss on Fridays. Safeties at 3:20 rest at 3:28.
