Constitution
I.
Name of Organization:
This organization will be known as the William and Mary Martial Arts Club.
II.
Purpose of Organization:
The purpose of the William and Mary Martial Arts Club will be to seek the moral,
intellectual, social and athletic benefits available to those who engage in the
Martial Arts and to foster and encourage the highest degree of skill, efficiency,
comradeship and loyalty at the College of William and Mary.
III.
Membership:
A. Eligibility for membership shall be limited to those who are currently enrolled
at the College of William and Mary in full-time, part-time or graduate study,
to the faculty and the staff of the college, and guest instructors outside of the
college invited to teach the club membership.
B. All members are eligible to participate in the operation of the club, its
clinic/camp and club-related functions provided the have fulfilled their
financial responsibilities to the club, and completed the membership waiver
form required of all members.
IV.
Officers:
A. Officers of the William and Mary Martial Arts Club shall be:
1. President
2. Vice-president
3. Secretary-Treasurer
B. Elections of some officers shall be held and appointments of others shall be
made each spring prior to the end of the spring semester. Newly elected and
appointed officers will assume their respective duties during second semester
of each academic school year.
C. Duties of officers
1. The president
The president shall be in charge of all administrative officers, projects,
policies and contacts with the College of William and Mary. Projects
and suggestions relating the club shall be directed to him and he shall
distribute these proposals to various committees and officers. He shall
be the club’s representative at all meetings and functions involving
Martial Arts and the William and Mary Club. He shall direct the
secretary-treasure in the administration of funds, with their approval of
the executive council. He shall be an ex-officio member of all
committees.
2. Vice-President
The vice-president shall be charged with the responsibility of assisting
the club president in all necessary administrative functions. The vicepresident shall coordinate and help supervise the charge of the club
secretary-treasurer in the performance of duties. In the absence of the
president, the vice-president shall assume charge of the president’s
office. The vice-president shall be responsible for clinic meetings and
club functions.
3. Secretary-Treasurer
The secretary-treasurer in charge of club affairs shall keep minutes of
all regular and executive committee meetings. The officer shall be
responsible for maintaining a complete roster and file of student
waiver forms. The officer shall also keep a record of the minutes of all
club meetings.
The secretary-treasurer shall be charged with the responsibility of
controlling all club funds entering or leaving the organization and the
distribution of such as stated in the constitution and by-laws. The
officer is directly responsible to the president. The president shall
direct the officer to issue funds for payment of debts in accordance
with his budget. The officer shall collect dues an offer proof of
payment in form of a receipt. The secretary-treasurer shall distribute
travel payments, and funds obtained from the College of William and
Mary as authorized.
V.
Executive Council:
A. The council shall consist of the president, vice-president and secretarytreasurer.
B. The council shall meet at least once during the school year. The president
shall preside and conduct business.
C. Some activities shall be decided upon by the executive council, while others
shall be open to the club members to decide.
D. The council shall operate with the consent of the general body.
1. The executive council shall act for the club in emergencies or when the
club is not available for consent.
2. The council shall assign work to the various members of the club.
VI. Dues
A. All members shall bear the cost of operation, entertainment for visiting teams
and initiation of projects favoring the club’s income.
B. Participation of costs shall be received in the form of dues, payable each
semester to the secretary-treasurer. All instructors are exempt from paying
dues.
C. The amount of the dues and time of payment shall be set by the officers of the
club.
D. The First DoGi and belt are provided with payment of dues. Every other
semester, funds permitting, students shall receive secondary equipment in the
for of: weapons, club sweatshirts, extra DoGi, Hajimakis, belts, etc.
VI.
Amendments:
This constitution shall be amended as necessary. Any amendments may be voted
upon as deemed necessary and will be accepted upon a two-thirds majority vote.
