Nisonger Center Leadership Group November 26, 2008 Staff Present: Gene Arnold; Ed Sterling; Margo Izzo; Maureen Meck; Luc Lecavalier; Tom Fish; Karen Ratliff-Schaub; Linda Jones; Dan Coury CCTS/PHPID Pilot Grant RFP-Karen Ratliff-Schaub, MD CCTS leader, has 25 million for seed grants Dr. Ratliff-Schaub will attend to get more information on “Centers on Innovations” Nisonger Display – Margo Izzo, PhD Display boards are printed and available for use to any program Describes who we are to professionals and parents at national and local conferences Received many compliments on the new display boards at the NATTAP conference Student Employee Payroll Procedures – Maureen Meck Please fill out a “Student Data Worksheet” when hiring new students; students that left and are returning for the quarter; or terminating This form has information regarding: effective date; name; work area; project to be paid from; salary rate It is very important to turn in the data worksheet when a student will no longer be working for the Nisonger Center so we can terminate them in the payroll system, if not, if looks as if they still work here and “throws-off” our employee/student count and if left open, someone could enter time for the student accidentally and generate a paycheck. You can obtain the form from the Administration office, and the form will be added to the Nisonger Center web page under employee resources. Please return completed forms to Kim in the HR office. Vicki Graff’s availability for grant writing assistance – L. Eugene Arnold, Med., MD Reminder that Vicki’s appointment has been changed. She now works 40% FTE for the center to assist those needing help in grant writing and editing (but not scientific content), and 40% FTE to the Next Chapter Book Club Vicki reports directly to the Director of Nisonger Center and will now be included in the Leadership Committee meetings. Suggested that a boilerplate be created to cover standard information needed on grant proposals that consist of: Nisonger organization; facilities; employees and such to help Vicki insert into grants. Announcements and Updates from Leadership - All Amanda Yurick was not released from her teaching contract at Cleveland; an agreement was reached for Amanda to work for us at 50% FTE as a sub-contractor. Margo received a 1 year DD Council grant for $125,000 for consultant with possible position in the future (Amy Hess on agenda for next meeting) Dr. Jackson will speak at the next CAC Committee on Dec. 10th at 3pm here in room 243 about the CCTS leadership Pat Morrissey will give an AUCD presentation regarding the new Federal Administration that will be put in place soon, and discuss what we should be looking at for the AUCD grant. Interviews for the Nisonger Center Director position are complete the next step is for the committee (meet in Dec.) to begin negotiations with a couple of candidates. Flu Shots will be available and given at the Nisonger Center, still deciding on a good day and date PVN – the new Position Vacancy Notice system has been in operation since September. For hiring managers there is a job aid to assist in accessing the applications for viewing. Diana Demitrescu from the COM HR office will give a short presentation on this process at the next Leadership Committee Meeting. The job aid will also be added to the Nisonger Center resources page. Consideration of hiring a 50% FTE Human Resources Recruiter to be shared with Physical Medicine. This person has already been hired by Physical Medicine and Otolaryngology, but the latter decided they did not have enough work for her and so they are looking for another department or center to pick up 50%. This person would be able to help the hiring managers review applications so they will not have to sort through 60 to 80 applications at each job posting. They are trained to sort through and review appropriate candidates to forward to each hiring manager and also trained for the COM “On-Boarding” policy. There was some discussion of whether the Center’s size warranted such a person. Several program directors indicated that they preferred to sort their own applications, anyhow, and would not use such a person. The Leadership group felt that hiring of such a person should await the identification of the new center director so that his/her input could be included in the decision whether the position is needed. Kim will be meeting with Jane Federer from the Medical Center’s Volunteer Office to review Nisonger Center’s volunteers and to assure that they are registered; background checked; and are aware of appropriate policies, also, to be sure that our volunteers are recognized each year with a gift from the Medical Center thanking them for their volunteer hours. We will schedule Jane to attend a leadership meeting in the future. Respectfully Submitted Kim Oyer Next Meetings: Dec 10th Jan 14, 2009
