We combine home energy supply with the Flow boiler - a domestic gas boiler that also generates electricity. We’re looking to change the way people think about energy by turning preconceived ideas about the energy industry around. Environmental highlights For every 500,000 Flow boilers installed, a large power station can be switched off since our boilers would generate an equivalent amount of electricity. 500,000 Flow boilers would reduce the UK’s carbon emissions by 500,000 tonnes of co2– the same as taking 166,000 cars off the road. Green credentials Winner: Greenest Product or Service – Suffolk’s creating the Greenest County Awards 2015 Winner- Environment and sustainability award 2015- Everline future 50 awards A summary of environmental achievements Part of the reduction in carbon emissions the Flow boiler generates is down to the fact that it generates most electricity at times of peak demand for power. When everyone is using most electricity – generally between the hours of 4-7 in the evening, in the winter – the National Grid struggles to cope with demand. So lots of easy to turn on but relatively dirty power stations (generally fuelled by coal and oil) kick in to meet this peak demand. Installing lots of Flow boilers reduces the need for these types of power station. For every 500,000 Flow boilers installed, a large power station can be switched off since our boilers would generate an equivalent amount of electricity. 500,000 Flow boilers would reduce the UK’s carbon emissions by 500,000 tonnes of co2– the same as taking 166,000 cars off the road. The Flow boiler offers tangible benefits to consumers – lower emissions and lower bills. But it is also does something else just as important – it reconnects customers to the energy industry and gives them a stake in it by making them generators too. This is absolutely key in building a sustainable energy industry. The changes that will have to be made, both in the industry and in consumer behaviour, are vast if we are to achieve our renewable energy future. The energy industry needs buy-in from customers as we all go on that journey together. The Flow boiler, a technology that uses our existing gas resources much more efficiently and engages people with the idea of energy again, is the perfect bridge between the fossil-fuel present and that renewable future.
