SIERRA INSTRUMENTS’ PRODUCTS RECEIVE RUSSIAN
FEDERATION APPROVAL FOR USE IN HAZARDOUS AREAS
MONTEREY, CA – April 2, 2009 -- Sierra’s Steel-Trak™ Model 640S Thermal
Mass Flow Meters have recently received both the GOST R Certificate of
Conformity (1Exd IIC T6…T2 ) for use in hazardous areas and the Pattern
Approval Certificate for Measuring Instruments from the Russian Federation
Authorized Bodies.
A GOST R Certificates states that the Steel-Trak™ Model 640S Industrial
Thermal Mass Flow Meter is applicable for use in explosive areas.

The Pattern Approval Certificate for measuring instruments (Metrology
Certificate) confirms that the particular design of a measuring instrument
conforms to applicable standards and that Sierra’s Model 640S has an approved
method of factory calibration for use in the Russian Federation.
Both certificates will increase the areas of applications where Sierra’s products
can be used in the Russian Federation.

Pattern Approval Certificates for Measuring Instruments (Metrological
Certificates) are issued by Rostekhregulirovaniye after comprehensive tests
provided by authorized metrology centers.
Mandatory testing of the Model 640S was conducted in the D.I. Mendeleev
Federal All-Russian Research and Development Metrology Institute and in the
Federal All-Russian R&D Institute for Physics, Technical and Radiometrics
Measurements. The extensive testing includes verification of accuracy,
repeatability, temperature and pressure limitations, and other flow meter
characteristics Approved patterns are then registered in the State Record of
Measuring Instruments managed by Rostekhregulirovaniye. The comprehensive
tests on the Model 640S also confirmed the safety capabilities of flow meter.
Sierra’s local partner in Russia, APPEC-Service Limited, assumed responsibility
for initiating and supporting this project to a successful conclusion. APPEC,
based in St. Petersburg, is responsible for all Sierra sales and service in Russia
and offers complete technical and application support via a highly trained
engineering team.
The addition of GOST and Russian Pattern Approvals to Sierra’s flagship line of
industrial thermal mass flow meters allows Sierra to offer an approved product for
the global market. Sierra’s industrial thermal mass flow meter line now has CSA
and CRN (Canada), FM (USA), ATEX, CE and PED (EU), IEC Ex (Australia),
KOSHA (South Korea) and Chinese Pattern Approval (China).
