Our Group tackles a wide range of important contemporary challenges in condensed matter research and technology, including those in: energy materials, geophysics, magnetism, organic electronics, quantum information, soft matter, and strongly correlated electron systems. We play a leading role in technique and instrument development, and our research combines experimental, computational and theoretical approaches. Many of our staff hold joint appointments within the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN), the Atomic Molecular and Positron Physics (AMOPP), and Biophysics (BioP) groups. We also have strong links with the Thomas Young Centre for Theory and Simulation of Materials (TYC). The group is located in the LCN and the main Physics & Astronomy Building on the UCL Bloomsbury campus, and we also have laboratories at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. We are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for the modelling, design, fabrication and analysis of nanoscale systems and materials. In addition, we are major developers and users of national and international X-ray and neutron scattering facilities.
