Purpose
This unit standard is for people working, or intending to work, in amenity
horticulture. People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify a
range of common indoor plants; plan a conservatory display; set up and
maintain a specific conservatory display; and maintain conservatory surfaces.

Definitions
Unique identifier refers to a personal identifying object in the photograph that is used
to determine that individual actually took the photograph themself.
In situ refers to in its original place.
Ex situ refers to away from its original place.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Identify a range of common indoor plants.
Performance criteria
1.1
Ten specimens of indoor plants are identified; plant specimens are collected,
pressed and dried, and mounted, or photographed with a unique identifier.
1.2
Plant specimens or photographs with a unique identifier are presented and fully
labelled according to family, botanical and common names, identifying features,
natural habitat, cultural requirements, and site location.
1.3
Ten different specimens of indoor plants are identified in situ or ex situ.

Element 2
Plan a conservatory display.
Performance criteria
2.1
Plan for display area is prepared, in accordance with workplace procedures.
2.2
Plant environmental requirements are evaluated, in terms of temperature range,
humidity, light levels, and medium moisture, and the environmental
management plan prepared, in accordance with workplace procedures.
Element 3
Set up and maintain specific conservatory display.
Performance criteria
3.1
Display benches, staging, or growing mediums are prepared in accordance with
workplace procedures.

Plants are staged or planted in accordance with display plan.
3.3
Plant labels and any display interpretive information are positioned in
accordance with workplace procedures.
3.4
Environmental conditions are managed and recorded in accordance with
workplace procedures and environmental management plan.

Display is maintained in accordance with workplace procedures.

Maintain conservatory surfaces.
Performance criteria
4.1
Plant display surfaces, where installed, are cleaned to reduce the risks of pests,
diseases, or weeds in accordance with workplace procedures.
4.2
Conservatory paths are maintained to ensure surfaces are safe for public and
workers, weed free, and any hazards are reported in accordance with
workplace procedures.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
