This placement is designed to allow you to explore your desired research or leadership field. Your placement will be facilitated by a faculty of support including a nominated academic supervisor, the academic and educational site leads and the foundation programme administrator. Support for your academic project will commence when you begin the first year of your Foundation Programme. Your four month academic placement will replace a clinical placement, as shown in the tracks above. You will be expected to complete the required competencies of the Foundation Programme Annual Review of Competence Progression and in addition will be required to present your project experience at the trust Grand Round and at a North West annual academic meeting. The foundation programme has good links to the research and development department and the North West of England Foundation School. You will be supported and encouraged to use these links. It is expected that the outcome of this placement will be a piece of high quality research or leadership experience. A written structured report is expected at the end of the block detailing the research / leadership undertaken. Alternatively abstracts / publications can be used as evidence of successful periods spent in the research block. Feedback on the report will be given by your academic supervisor and /or academic lead for SRFT. The research departments below have an excellent track record and are willing and able to support trainees’ academic and practical needs. We particularly welcome applications from individuals who have an established specific interest in the following disciplines. Upon request we can provide further information. Placements by academic speciality will be discussed with the successful applicants after appointment. If your area of chosen interest would involve an academic placement at a different centre in the Manchester area this can be accommodated. There will be no on-call commitments for the academic block; these are basic hour posts.
