POSITION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION: A classroom teacher at Glen Waverley Secondary College is charged with the responsibility of designing and delivering an educational program for their students which is consistent with the aims and objectives of the college including those incorporated into the College’s Vision and Values statement, its Charter and Staff Code of Conduct. These documents identify a number of important foci for the work of all teachers. They include: To develop students as autonomous learners through improved teaching and learning and the explicit teaching of the generic skills and attributes. To enable all students to learn powerfully. To improve and extend the use of appropriate computer based learning technologies to enhance educational outcomes for all students. To care for students as individuals by catering for their physical, emotional and academic needs using recent educational research to inform the best approach to be used. An annual appraisal for each teacher determines the extent to which they have addressed and contributed to improving the quality of teaching and learning and how they have used computer-based learning technologies to enhance the educational outcomes achieved by students. In addition all teachers are expected to participate in on-going professional development related to the above foci. In addition to their classroom duties, teachers are also required to perform additional duties allocated by the Principal in accordance with state system requirements and school council policies. DUTIES: The main duties to be performed by a classroom teacher are to: 2.1 Implement the College’s Vision and Values statement 2.2 Incorporate the principles of the College’s ‘Powerful Learning’ statement into their classroom practice. 2.3 Adopt strategies which will improve the quality of the teaching and learning that occurs in their classroom and which will ensure that all students make progress. 2.4 Integrate the use of appropriate computer-based learning technologies into their classroom programs. 2.5 Undertake direct teaching of groups of students and individual students and other non-teaching supervisory duties as determined by the College Principal. 2.6 Keep abreast of all activities and developments in the College and participate in College decision-making processes. 2.7 Contribute to the College co-curricular program and participate in activities such as parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, learning area meetings, House meetings, and camps and excursions. 2.8 Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area or other curriculum program within the school. 2.9 Participate in regular professional development activities. 2.10 Undertake other classroom teaching related and organisational duties as determined by the College Principal.
