1. Successfully Launched Programs and Initiatives








Completed renaming and rebranding of Office of Dean of Student Life and CARE Team, including
replacing signage, having accurate name appear on PSU website, outreach meetings with 28
departments within Student Affairs and 19 departments outside of Student Affairs;
Bias Response Team procedures finalized and coordinated with various PSU partners, including QRC,
CARE Team, WRC, General Counsel, Equity and Compliance, SAGE, and Vice Provost for Student Affairs;
Together with ISSS, Japanese Student Organization and community partners, held campus-wide vigil for
victims of Tsunami and Earthquake in Japan;
Opening of Quiet Prayer and Meditation Lounge ,a shared space for spiritual reflection and practice in
SMSU 047, representing a collaboration of many departments from across campus including SALP, SMSU,
Saudi Student Club, Muslim Student Association, SHAC, Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies
Department, ISSS, and Spiritual Life Center (formerly Campus Ministry);
Queer Student Services hosted over 100 attendees at PSU's first Queer Students of Color Conference in
April, established 12 new event traditions, and instituted Queries and Queer Ally Program;
Student Legal Services created Immigration Clinic for students and their immediate families, began
offering new internship through Law and Legal Studies minor, and began offering three new Explore the
Law events for minority students;
For the first time at PSU, DOSL staff sponsored several NUFP (NASPA Undergraduate Fellows
Program) scholars at PSU;
First PSU "Sustainability Ambassador" Honore Depew, educated his peers and others affiliated with
the Ambassador Program. He also provided sustainable tours and tour training in order to link our
welcoming and hosting of visitors on campus with important concepts of sustainable products, practices
and values.
2. Significantly Increased Opportunities for Learning in Student Leadership






Students from Sustainability Leadership lead the campus in planting of 5 new learning gardens,
including: Student Permaculture, Broadway EcoRoof Garden, Food for Thought Garden, Shattuck Hall
Ecological Plaza, and Environmental Club Garden;
Successfully created Residence Hall Energy Conservation Initiative, including piloting EcoReps program,
hosting Energy Campaign during April, holding meatless Monday in Victors, hosting candlelit dinner and
black-out board games in Victors, “Re-used Art” Contest, and energy quiz in Ondine, and distributing 300
bookmarks to residents about RecycleMania campaign;
ASPSU and SALP significantly increased overall participation in ASPSU elections, more than doubling
participation in elections over last year's number of eligible votes being cast;
All members of SFC remained eligible and participated throughout Incidental Fee budgeting cycle;
Institutionalized the Portland State Programming Board and hosted the first Portland State Homecoming
event (500 attendees);
Celebrated the 20th Annual Party in the Park.

• Create new collaborative efforts and improve TLC (“The Learning Community”)

• Each DOSL unit will develop a minimum of one new initiative to partner with faculty
and academic departments
Students
• Sustain existing and create new opportunities for student involvement in specific
areas such as Leadership Fellows, Sustainability Eco-Reps, Student Conduct & SLS
Interns
Parents and members of the greater Portland community
• Cultivate alumni network with folks with affinity with specific programs such as
SALP groups, QRC, Sustainability and WRC
• Work with Orientation & Alumni Association to create institutional connections for
parents and families
Strengthen Communication
Students
•
Improve web presence and content for DOSL main page all DOSL program areas;
•
Utilize CRM and other tools to develop effective outreach and communication
strategies;
•
Identify “least engaged” students and target resources to better invite their
participation in campus life programs. Groups might include commuting students,
transfer students, and student involved with Student Conduct
Faculty and Staff
•
Develop online resource for new faculty and staff introducing CARE Team, Student
Code of Conduct, Student Ambassadors, and other Dean of Student Life resources;
Develop and Implement Assessment Strategies
•
Develop strategic plan for Office of the Dean of Student Life,
•
Strategic plan will include implementation of Assessment Plans for all programs within the DOSL
alignment– designed to measure program, learning, and satisfaction outcomes;
•
Use data dashboard to tell the story of how DOSL units contribute to President’s Themes and
Goals of improving Student Success, Retention, Engagement, and Satisfaction
