Clock update- Following my rejection of the vendor's formal proposal to repair the clocks at our (considerable) expense, WSU's Department of Facilities Planning & Management, in a letter dated January 14, 2009, informed the vendor that it is no longer on WSU's list of acceptable vendors and will be placed back on that list only following repair of the clocks to our satisfaction at no cost to us along with a two year warranty. If the company refuses, it can no longer do business with WSU and the clocks will be repaired by WSU at our expense. This is our final attempt to get the clocks repaired at no cost to our College. b. Monitor/Guard for Brady Entrance to Building: The current plan is for a Brady guard to be present from 6:30am - 6:30pm. The two guards required each day beginning Monday may not be our "permanent" guards as Public Safety Director Holt is still interviewing candidates, so we may have cadets or temporary guards until the interviews are complete. Recall these guards will be retired Police Officers. There's now a sign posted at the Brady entrance stating that beginning Feb 2 a OneCard will be required for access and visitors will need to sign in at the guard's desk. Any new policies and procedures needed for this will be distributed at a later date. Also, the guards desk or table used Monday will be a temporary station until FP+M works out the details of creating a permanent station that will match the decor of the building and wired with our security monitors and phone. 3) University Commencement Moore Student Speaker The University Commencement has gone through a series of changes over the past few years. A University Committee was developed and they have come up with a two day Commencement schedule divide the Colleges among several commencement ceremonies. The EACPHS will be having their University Commencement on: Friday, May 8, 2009 - 3:00 p.m. The following colleges will be participating in the same ceremony. Library and Information Science College of Nursing Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences School of Social Work School of Medicine (Ph.D./Master’s Degrees) Each University ceremony will have a student speaker and as the oldest College among those graduating with our College we have been asked to select the student speaker for this year. The Executive Committee has charged DSAC with nominating student speakers for the ceremony. It must be a graduating student in the College and preferably someone who has been a part of DSAC. The following students have been nominated: Joshua Raub – PharmD Brittany Brand – PharmD Jason Laughlin – APA Erin Spaniol – OT Katie Selva – PAS Kristen Finos – PT Jennifer Moore will be emailing these students to see if they accept the nomination and further selection will occur after reviewing the list of students who have accepted the nomination. 4) Student Council Report Nence In the last months student counsel met with President Noreen and discussed a few issues; one of them was the decrease in the enrollment for 2008-2009.President Noreen explained this situation by loss of jobs in our community and a lot of our students are working full time to pay for their education. In addition to that as you all are aware there was an extension on due date for the tuition for winter semester. Safety in campus is a very important issue for the president and it even of greater interest for students. WSU is considered one of the safest campuses. There will be an increase in the number of blue lines and also of cameras around campus. There might be tentatives to switch all the parking structure systems as the one we have here at the EACPHS where even if you have no money you can get in and pay later. School of Medicine Rep complained about their administration not to listen to student requests. SC Program board is working on Mad Anthony which is the biggest event sponsored by SC. We are still finalizing on performers and a budget of over $60,000 has been approved for it. As you all know this is my last year of school and my SC term end on April 30. I would suggest that you guys think about if you are interested in the position and also let Jennifer know. I want to congratulate all of you for making Apple days a success and all the students who helped with immunizations campus wide. I received great feedback. Keep up the good work and feel free to contact me if you need anything. Thank you Zhaniela 5) Student Organization Reports a.
