ALUMNI ADVISORY COUNCIL The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Alumni Advisory Council is the connection between alumni, alumni groups and the university. Alumni Relations programs are administrated by the Office of Alumni Relations Office on behalf of the university with the guidance and support of the Alumni Advisory Council. NAME AND LOCATION The name of the council shall be the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Alumni Advisory Council. The principal “home” of the Council shall be located at the headquarters of EmbryRiddle Aeronautical University. The Council may operate in a “virtual” manner. MISSION The mission of the Alumni Advisory Council is to create a vision that will serve as the cornerstone for the Alumni Association in engaging, cultivating and serving the alumni of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. PURPOSE The purposes of the Alumni Advisory Council shall be to: Promote communication among and between alumni, alumni chapter leaders, faculty and staff members, students, administrators, and such university boards, councils and advisors as may pertain; Provide alumni an opportunity to become involved in the conduct of university alumni events and programs, particularly in their own geographical region through their alumni chapter and the Alumni Advisory Council; Assist and be supportive of the various roles of traditional alumni activities including the admissions-recruiting process, mentoring new alumni, identifying opportunities for voluntary participation in alumni affairs, and to offer guidance in defining, planning, guiding and executing alumni affairs and alumni activities; Support and promote the fund raising and advancement efforts of the University. ALUMNI ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP Members of the Alumni Advisory Council are individuals who are alumni or specifically appointed advisory persons with an interest in the support and enhancement of EmbryRiddle Aeronautical University. Criteria for membership include; high caliber professionals with strong corporate contacts, able and willing to identify and cultivate corporate sponsors. Potential to be future leaders on other boards ie; Presidents Advisory Board and Board of Trustees. Members will be recommended by the Alumni Association to the President, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, for approval and will serve a two year term. Each Council member is entitled: To participate in each annual meeting, and any special meeting(s), of the Council; To nominate, vote for, and serve as any officer of the Council as these may be developed; The Alumni Council will number at least twelve (12-14) members, and will include membership consisting of: o o o o o o Serving Alumni Chapter Leaders (four or five) General representatives from the alumni (four or five) Student representative involved in Alumni-Student Connection program/club. A member of the University Board of Trustees who is an alumnus/ae The Executive Director of the Alumni Association, ex officio A member of the Office of Alumni Association (assigned as a non-voting secretary of the council) Each Member is responsible for: o Annual dues of $250.00 for on going operations of the Alumni Advisory Council, and an annual donation of $100.00 towards the Fund for EmbryRiddle. Payment plans available. o Their own transportation and special requirements to attend Council functions and in the conduct of Council business. The university through the Alumni Association will fund accommodations up to two nights, meals for the duration of meetings, and on-site support for the council. The Executive Director of Alumni Relations in coordination with the President will select an Acting Chairman of the Alumni Advisory Council for the purpose of organizing the Council and acting as executive for the purposes of establishing, executing, and amending as necessary, these by-laws. ALUMNI ADVISORY COUNCIL OFFICERS AND DUTIES The Officers of the Alumni Advisory Council shall consist of a Chairman and a Vice Chairman. Other officers may be designated from time to time by the Council. The Chairman shall supervise the general affairs of the Council and shall preside at all meetings. The Chairman shall have the right to vote on all issues; and the power to appoint committee chairs and members of the committees. The Chairman shall make an annual report, through the Office of Alumni Relations, to the membership and to the university. The Vice-Chairman shall assist in supervising the affairs of the Council, and perform all duties incumbent upon the Chairman during the absence of disability of the President. A designee from the Office of Alumni Relations shall serve as the Secretary/Treasurer to the Alumni Advisory Council, and shall be a non voting member. The Secretary-Treasurer shall be responsible for keeping accurate and complete records of the proceedings of all meetings of the Council. The Alumni Association will be responsible for funding or coordinating administrative costs for Council Operations from its university budget. Committees to be established may include the following: o o o o Communications Membership and nominations Fund raising and advancement Admissions MEETINGS The Alumni Council shall meet at least twice during each academic year to transact business; The meeting locations will alternate between the Daytona Beach and Prescott campuses, or other locations as determined by the council; Regular meetings of the Alumni Council shall be conducted with individuals in personal attendance. Special meetings may be conducted electronically. ALUMNI ADVISORY COUNCIL INTERACTION WITH THE UNIVERSITY The Alumni Advisory Council may present information to and receive information from the university and the Alumni Association in order to conduct its authorized business. The Alumni Advisory Council may prepare special reports, briefings or documents in order to present its information to the alumni, the Alumni Chapter Leaders or the university. The Secretary-Treasurer of the Alumni Advisory Council will schedule and arrange meetings, assist in the preparation of materials, and act as the liaison to the Office of Alumni Relations. The Alumni Association will provide administrative support to the Alumni Advisory Council for the conduct of its operations and functions. From time to time, the President, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University may meet with the Alumni Advisory Council at his/her request in order to solicit information or assistance, to discuss pertinent issues and matters regarding the operation of the Alumni Advisory council or the university, or other business relevant to the alumni. Likewise, the Chairman of the Alumni Advisory Council, through the Secretary, may request to meet with the President regarding such matters.
