Job Title: Grade: Responsible to: Responsible for: Job Purpose: ASSOCIATE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL: DIRECTOR OF MATHEMATICS L8 - 12 The Principal The leadership and management of teachers within the maths faculty and the numeracy coordinator To support the Principal and the Senior Leadership Team in developing and enhancing the quality of teaching in mathematics raising levels of student achievement in mathematics and monitoring and supporting student progress, behaviour and welfare within the Faculty promoting numeracy across the curriculum MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Associate Assistant Principal is expected to work closely with the Principal, will be an associate member of the Senior Leadership Team and will be able to understand, participate and contribute to all aspects of College life. This post will be demanding but will offer considerable scope and opportunity. The Associate Assistant Principal will fulfil the functions of the Head of the Mathematics Faculty and an additional whole College responsibility will be agreed subject to the experience, interest and skill set of the successful candidate. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Key responsibilities 1/1 To play a full role in the management of the College and all its activities 1/2 To develop, maintain, monitor and evaluate the programmes of learning offered by the faculty in response to whole school strategy, priorities and broader educational developments. To modify, evaluate and update specific components of study when required 1/3 To play a significant role in the drafting, implementation and success of the College development plan and take responsibility for the contribution of the specific faculty. To produce a specific and associated development plan. 1/4. To lead, motivate and guide the faculty and to ensure the team’s commitment to the College’s statement of values, principles, aims and key objectives. 1 of 6 D:\687321222.doc 1/5 To establish and maintain an effective leadership and management structure within the specified faculty, to monitor and evaluate the work of the teachers and support staff and to encourage a variety of teaching, learning and assessment styles and approaches. To delegate some key responsibilities to the Curriculum Co-ordinator in the faculty. 1/6 To maintain and monitor staff performance and participate in performance management procedures adopted by the College and be involved in the leadership of this programme. To undertake classroom observations. To advise, support and motivate members of the faculty and assist them in their professional development and link this to performance management. 1/7 To assist in the appointment of staff to work in the faculty, to take an active role in the training of teachers in initial teacher training and other training approaches adopted by the College. 1/8 To ensure that the faculty adopts high expectations, to maintain good discipline and ensure that standards of achievement are as high as possible and that attitudes and behaviour are conducive to constructive learning for all students. 1/9 To ensure that work and practices within the faculty follow College policies and procedures noting in particular the requirements set out in policies relating to teaching and learning. 1/10 To set and take responsibility for student targets, to monitor these and produce action plans when requested. 1/11 To ensure that the faculty actively follows practices that assist students with special educational needs, including gifted and talented students. 1/12 To analyse and assess students' output achievements, to correlate these to targets. 1/13 To attend Senior Leadership Team and other management meetings. 1/14 To undertake a 70% teaching load. 1/15 To play an active role in Behaviour Management including involvement in patrol, detention and duty team rotas. 1/16 To undertake other tasks and duties as required by the Principal and consistent with the Teachers' Pay and Conditions of Service document. 2. Key tasks Note that a number of these can be delegated to other staff in the faculty, particularly to Curriculum Co-ordinators. 2/1 To deploy teaching and support staff consistent with their experience and skills. 2/2 To maintain and develop the curriculum area so that it is an attractive environment conducive to productive and stimulating learning experiences. To modify, evaluate and update specific components of study when required. 2 of 6 D:\687321222.doc 2/3 To advise the College Leadership Team of relevant out-of-hours activities and potential learning programmes. To ensure that the faculty delivers an out-ofhours/enrichment programme. 2/4 To maintain regular communication with other curriculum phases and to ensure continuity of learning occurs. To promote an awareness of progression. To organise a transition programme in accordance with College procedures. 2/5 To ensure effective communication takes place between parents and the faculty, to maintain the curriculum web pages, to manage, monitor and ensure reports are written to parents. 2/6 To develop and maintain effective assessment practices in line with College policy. To ensure that effective assessment for learning occurs. 2/7 To ensure that revision programmes are organised throughout the faculty. 2/8 To ensure that students are set homework and that this is effective and is produced on time by students. 2/9 To ensure that work is set to all students when staff are absent. 2/10 To manage the faculty's budget efficiently and in the best interests of student learning. 3. General Responsibilities To undertake the general teaching responsibilities as outlined in the generic job description. The general responsibilities are set out in the School Teachers Pay and Conditions document and it is expected that all teachers shall work in accordance with these guidelines. These conditions of employment are outlined in section 13 of this document.
