There may be occasions where a very small number (3 or above) of specialist modules contribute to awards across the

appointed with an onerous responsibility for such service modules, an annual fee of £280 is paid upon receipt of a written
report.

There may be occasions where individual specialist modules (1 or 2) occur within the University. Where an external

Additional Responsibilities
£70 per additional award
External examiners will receive the basic annual fee for the first final award with an additional £70 for each final award
added to their responsibilities. For example, an external examiner with responsibility for both a single honours programme
and a subject on combined honours will receive a total of £420. No additional fee will be paid for individually named
intermediate exit awards from the final target award, or for University Certificates/Advanced Certificates which comprise
modules that contribute to existing higher awards, for which the external examiner is already responsible.

Foundation Year Entry/Stage 1 of a newly validated programme
£105 per year
External Examiners are primarily concerned with the final award to students and will not, therefore, normally be involved at
Stage 0 or Stage 1 of a programme where these stages do not lead to a final award, even though some students may
choose to exit at these stages. It is recognised, however, that there may be circumstances where a Department may require
the involvement of an external examiner at Stage 0 or Stage 1 of a newly validated award. The University will pay a fee of
£105 in order to retain the services of a newly appointed external examiner for Stage 0/Stage 1 of an award where students
have not yet progressed to stage 2 and stages 0 and 1 do not, in themselves, lead to final awards.
