LISC AmeriCorps Service Description Quarter-Time Member Position Four month term earliest start October 1, 2014 Local Initiatives Support Corporation and United Way of Greater Toledo are seeking a quarter-time (450 hour within four months) AmeriCorps member to serve as Volunteer Coordinator. United Way of Greater Toledo (UWGT) started the Information & Referral Center, First Call For Help in 1970 as a program dedicated to assist people in finding necessary resources available in our community to help them. On March 15, 2005, UWGT launched this service as United Way 2-1-1. United Way 2-1-1 continues as an information and referral source which provides current and accurate information of available health and human care services, by telephone, online, and to walk-in clients. United Way 2-1-1 also works to maximize the effectiveness of human services by documenting unmet needs, advocating on behalf of our clients to receive needed services, and as a resource for information to human service professionals. We employ well-trained and caring staff members to provide one-on-one, efficient and confidential access to accurate information. We also maintain a computerized resource database on human care services available to residents of our service area which is updated regularly. Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is dedicated to helping community residents transform distressed neighborhoods into healthy and sustainable communities of choice and opportunity — good places to work, do business and raise children. LISC combines corporate, government and philanthropic resources to help community-based organizations revitalize underserved neighborhoods. This strategy extends to the LISC AmeriCorps program where we support placing AmeriCorps Members with local non-profit partners. Members assist in efforts to revitalize underserved neighborhoods across America and create vibrant places for people to live, work, and play. The member selected to serve in this capacity will be responsible for: Recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising volunteers in all positions; Preparing some tax returns, as necessary, and answer questions pertaining to tax-related issues for taxpayers who qualify for the IRS VITA program; Being available on-site and/or via telephone at all times while sites are open during tax season; Assisting volunteers by troubleshooting minor issues with TaxWise software; Having completed Volunteer Standards of Conduct and Basic VITA certification for FY2011, 2012, 2013, or 2014 prior to the start of service; Obtaining Advanced Level, Health Savings Account, and Cancellation of Debt, and site coordinator IRS Training & Certification (offered free of cost through United Way) within a month of the positions beginning or by November 1, 2014; Managing all volunteer personnel files, IRS paperwork, and ensure compliance to IRS guidelines; Acting as a liaison between Volunteers, Host Site, United Way Program Manager; Monitoring sites to ensure all IRS quality site requirements are upheld; Assisting with monitoring and ensuring all tax returns are submitted and fixed (if needed) at each tax site LISC AmeriCorps Service Description May 2014 Members will also be expected to fully participate as part of the LISC AmeriCorps team. LISC sponsored activities including: Attend all locally sponsored monthly meetings; Participate in a nationally sponsored webinars; Engage in every-other-month affinity groups to discuss topics related to the member’s service; This is an AmeriCorps position. LISC and United Way of Greater Toledo will not allow the member to engage in activities that are considered prohibited under the terms of the grant while serving as a LISC AmeriCorps member. Desired Skills Tax preparation, accounting or financial background preferred Previous VITA volunteer experience preferred Organizational and leadership/management skills Microsoft Excel and Nitro PDF experience a plus, but not necessary Must complete FREE IRS Tax Preparation Training and Advanced, Health Savings Account, and Cancellation of Debt certification within one month of start date or by November 1, 2014 Desire and ability to work with a diverse group of people, particularly those living in low-income distressed neighborhoods Ability to work independently and in a team environment Computer skills Good written and oral communication skills Ability to work a flexible schedule (some night and weekends may be required) Program Eligibility Requirements To be eligible to participate as a LISC AmeriCorps member the candidate must meet all eligibility requirements to serve as a National Service participant including but not limited to: Possess a high school degree, GED certificate or agree to achieve GED during the term of service Be at least 17 years of age (note there is no age limit) Have status as a US citizen or possess permanent resident status Be eligible to earn an education award and not be barred from performing a term of service Be able to complete a minimum of 450 hours of service within a four month time period Be available for service from October 1, 2014 through January 31, 2015 Program Benefits Upon successful completion of the term of service, the member will be eligible for a $1,493 education award to pay off existing, eligible student loans or return to school. The position pays a total stipend of $2500. The stipend is payable by United Way of Greater Toledo.
