Narberth Community Theatre Play/Musical Proposal Form
2010-2011 Season
Directing & Casting Requirements:
- NCT Bylaws state that directors must have performed the role of assistant
director in at least one previous NCT production before being appointed as
Director, unless otherwise approved by the Board of Directors.
- If you have not previously directed or assistant directed at NCT please attach
Directing resume so that you may be appropriately considered. Exceptions
have been made for experienced directors in the past. If you are interested in
assistant directing to meet this requirement please contact Brenna McBride
(see below for contact information).
- NCT bylaws require open auditions for all productions.
- Narberth typically rehearses 2-3 days per week (with the exception of Tech
Week) starting about 10 weeks prior to opening, resulting in approximately 30
rehearsals. Rehearsal space is typically available for use during the afternoon or
evening on Sunday, as well as Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings. It is
expected that directors will develop rehearsal schedules within these guidelines.
- Any proposed changes to any script must be approved by the Board of
Directors prior to auditions as copyright considerations must be
considered.
Budget Requirements:
- Musical Budgets: Total budget is typically $2,000 to $5,000 (exclusive of
royalties).
- Play Budgets: Total budget is typically $1,000 to $2,000 (exclusive of
royalties).
- Please note that Plays and Musicals with lower production costs and the
potential to the sell the highest volume of tickets will be given top
consideration.
Timelines:
- Narberth typically produces 3 shows per season, 1 play and 2 musicals.
Shows typically run in November, March and May.
- Submissions are due no later than January 30, 2009. Please see the end of this
form for Play Reading Committee contact information and details on sending
your submission.
- Priority consideration will be given to submissions received first.
- Play Reading Committee will be making recommendations of selections for
the 2010-11 season to the NCT Board of Directors in April 2009, and
directors will be asked to meet the board in May 2009.
- Final selections will be announced in June 2009.

Production Staff:
The NCT Board of Directors assigns a Producer and a
Technical Coordinator for every show. We realize that it can be difficult for one
person to have to “do it all.” We also realize that some directors might actually want to
build their own set or design their own lighting. We want each director to feel free to do
as much as he or she would like, but we also want to provide any assistance a director
needs. Please provide details where assistance will be required or where you have
already identified staff.
