Minutes of previous meeting and points/actions arising Minutes were agreed and action points addressed: SG stated that it had proved difficult to find a student to attend a meeting due to exam/timetable issues etc this time of year. SG to find student for future meeting SG reported that it has been an extremely busy time with inductions as students take up placements. SG to be notified by TDA of the allocation breakdown for 09/10 in July Draft Terms of Reference were circulated and agreed, it was noted that they were clear and precise. 4. Management Report Priorities TDA have been notified of company name change from SCOLLAR Trust to Southend Education Trust. D:\687314014.doc Page 1 of 3 Placements are being monitored to ensure all days are completed and arrange carry over if necessary. Summer months will be used to prepare school invoices and update documentation. Developments and Achievements New schools are being approached to host students with some good responses. SG has attended various networking events to promote the SA Scheme. SG continues to work closely with Lucy Glover to ensure there is no confusion for students between Aimhigher Associates and SAS. Applications are already coming in for 2009/10 allocation and will be worked on over the coming weeks. School Evaluation 2007/08 98% responded that the Student Associate assigned to their school interacted well with pupils 97% responded that the Student Associate was an appropriate role model for their school 87% responded that their teaching/support staff benefited from working with the Student Associate 75% responded that the Student Associate interacted with different aspects of school life eg school events, meetings, staff training, activities 88% felt the scheme had regional benefits for the recruitment and retention of teachers 90% felt the Scheme provided students with a realistic insight into the demands of the teaching profession Two further questions regarding Training Entry Profile and HE did not produce defined outcomes. SG to explore splitting the evaluation to report separately for primary and secondary . SG to explore changes to the evaluation process Discussion took place with regards to putting the students evaluation form on the website and to withhold last payment until evaluation is returned. Performance We have now filled our allocation for 2008/09 in line with the TDA contract Allocated - 30 Primary and 97 Secondary Recruited – 32 Primary and 98 Secondary Challenges On-going communication with some schools hinders organisation of placements. SG to re-send documentation at start of academic year 3rd DVD to be produced SG to arrange filming of teaching/training sessions 5. AOB Discussion took place around stringent CRB checks and the introduction of the ISA, which may result in a cost to the student, a cause for concern. SG has attended ISA information sessions and is awaiting further instructions. SG stated that a more selective interview process may be introduced for overseas students by the TDA. Jo Boyton thanked SG for agreeing to speak at the University Careers Advisers Training at the Law College in London on 9/7 Jane Elson requested more SAS literature for disseminating Katie Kennedy thanked SG for her hard work and stated that she wishes to remain a steering group member.? 6.
