SPRING 2006 ORIENTATION AND ARRIVAL INFORMATION Congratulations and welcome to Fairleigh Dickinson University. The information on this webpage will help you to prepare for your arrival at the University this August. As a new international student, you are required to check-in to participate in International Student orientation. Please review the orientation details on the website carefully and return any requested information or forms to the International Admissions Office by January 10, 2006. Placement Test During the orientation program, you may be tested for English Language proficiency. Although you have been accepted based on TOEFL scores or certificates from the ELS Language Centers, you may still be required to enroll in English as a Second Language (ESL) courses (3 credits or more) based on your English test results. You should not assume that you are exempt from taking this English test even though you have many years of English training or education. Additionally, some undergraduate students will be required to take a Math Placement Test. These tests will take place during the first day of undergraduate orientation and must be taken prior to registration for classes. Medical Clearance Fairleigh Dickinson University must comply with the New Jersey State Law requiring that students have medical clearance before registering for classes or taking residence on campus. Physical examination and international medical records must be received by the International Admissions Office by January 10, 2006. Student identification number The University assigns a student identification number to all new students. Your number can be found on the top of your letter of admission. You should use this number on all forms and communication with the University and when you register for classes. It can not be changed even if you obtain a U.S.A. social security number later. Transferring from another University or high school in the U.S.A. If you are presently in the United States and are transferring from another University or high school, you are required to notify your current advisor that you plan to transfer to Fairleigh Dickinson. You are responsible for bringing with you the F.D.U. Transfer Enrollment Status Form to International Student Orientation. Once again, congratulations and welcome to Fairleigh Dickinson University. If the International Admissions Office can be of any assistance to help prepare for your arrival, please let us know. The quickest way to reach us is via e-mail at global@fdu.edu. Important Arrival Information In order to acquaint you with the University and to inform you of your responsibilities as an international student, you are required to attend the International Student Orientation Program at the beginning of your entering semester. The latest that a new international student can enter the United States to attend Fairleigh Dickinson University is the day that International Student Orientation begins. If you can not arrive by this date, do not come! Entry after this date will put you in immediate violation of your F-1 or J-1 student visa status because you will not be permitted to register at Fairleigh Dickinson if you arrive late. If your I-20 or DS-2019 form indicates a later reporting date, show this document to the American Embassy or Consulate and to the U.S. Immigration officer at the arrival airport to prove that you have permission to arrive until this later date. Please bring the following documents with you to Orientation: 1. Passport 2. Photocopies of your passport including identification pages. Please indicate the new semester when you would like to begin.
