Full-day kindergarten and before- and after- school
programs this fall.
Welcome to our kindergarten program.
Full-day kindergarten for four- and five-year-olds has started across Ontario and will be
offered at our school this fall.
It includes:


A full day of learning during the regular school day, supported by a teacher/early
childhood educator (ECE) team working together in the classroom.
Optional programs before- and after-school hours (e.g. 7:00 – 9:00 am, 3:30 –
6:00pm) that will be available where there is enough interest from parents
Programs will be led by an early childhood educator and will be available for a
fee.
Why sign up for before- and after- school programs at our school?
There are many reasons our programs work for both parents and kids:




Convenience: programs are offered at the school.
Safe, secure and healthy environment: young children do best with familiar
surroundings and routines.
Trained staff: programs are run by staff who are knowledgeable about early
learning and child development.
Keeping up to date about your child’s progress: staff will provide ongoing and
regular communication about your child’s progress.
Learning through play: engaging activities to help your child
learn.
Young children learn through play, so that’s the focus of the before- and after- school
program. It offers:









Activities in large and small groups.
Music, art and drama.
Technology.
Access to many books, so children can choose what they want to read.
A wide variety of toys and equipment, such as blocks, sand, construction toys.
Quiet activities like puzzles.
Story time, where stories are read aloud to the children.
Snack time.
Outdoor play time or active games in the gym.
The program is connected to the learning that happens in the kindergarten classroom
during the regular school day.

We want to hear from you! Tell us if you are interested in before- and afterschool programs at our school.
If there is enough interest from parents, [NAME OF SCHOOL BOARD] will ensure there
is a program before- and/or after-school hours in the [2011-12] school year.

Costs and times for the program.
You choose whether to register your child for the optional program before- and/or afterschool.
Programs are run on a cost-recovery basis. The [NAME OF BOARD] sets the fees at a

The fees for 2011-12 are:



Before school: [START TIME] to the start of the school day. [E.G., 7:00AM TO

Subsidies are available for some families, based on need. For more information about

If you are interested in the before- and/or after-school program, we need to know by
[DATE]. We can only offer the program if enough parents indicate they are interested.
To provide us with the information we need to plan our program, please complete the
attached questionnaire and return it to [NAME, EMAIL, FAX] as soon as possible before
[DEADLINE]. By [DATE], we’ll be able to confirm the program is running—at that time,
you’ll register your child and be asked to pay a two-week deposit.
