Festival Place Cultural Arts Foundation Scholarship “Most Likely to Become a Professional Artist” The FPCAF Scholarship seeks to recognize and assist deserving Strathcona County music students, who are most likely to become a professional artist. Eligibility: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Primary address must be in the County of Strathcona. Must be between the ages of 12-28. Must have studied with current teacher since October 1, of the current festival year. Selections must meet requirements found in the AMFA and Local SPMFA Syllabi. Must register and perform in 2 other solo classes in the current festival. Previous winners of this scholarship are ineligible. Provide a 500 word essay detailing the arts area they are in, what awards they have previously won (if any), what the funds will be used for, why they are interested in the arts, what their career aspirations are etc. 8. Provide two letters of recommendation (maximum one page each): One from the teacher and the other from someone (not a relative) who knows him/her as a person and an artist. The recommendation should include the length of time that they have known the student; notes about his/her character, commitment to cultural arts, or other relevant information as to why this student should receive this scholarship. 9. Entry fee: $115.00 ($50 will be returned after performing in this class.) 2. The program must be a balanced musical program and may include; concerti(or a movement), sonata, or a song cycle, or a collection of poetry A maximum time limit of 25 minutes from the first note played to the end of the last note played. Or for speech candidates, 25 minutes from the time of the first word spoken to the end of the last word spoken. 3. A maximum of 5 candidates, with a minimum of 2, will be selected to compete. 4. A panel of adjudicators representing the disciplines of the performers will adjudicate the class. 1 Selection: 1. The successful candidates will be chosen by Festival Place Cultural Arts Scholarship Subcommittee. 2. The chosen candidates must register with the SPMF, at spmf.org, in this scholarship class, upon notification of acceptance, by the FPCAF Scholarship Subcommittee, by February 4, 2014. 3. The winner will be chosen by Adjudicator recommendation. The Adjudicators’ decision is final. 4. The Scholarship will be awarded at the Grand Concert and Awards Ceremony, to the applicant who is deemed to be, “Most Likely to Become a Professional Artist.” 5. The winner will perform at the Grand Concert. Successful Candidates will be notified no later than January 28, 2014 Awards: 1. The Scholarship will be provided once per year; 2. Selection of a concert program displaying a balance of musical styles will be considered by the adjudicators. One selection may be used that is performed in another solo class at the festival. Music must be memorized. No recorded audio accompaniment is permitted. There will be brief comments by the adjudicators after all performances are completed.
