As a “leave behind” document during visits to invite candidates to join. ____________________________________________________________________________________ University of Illinois Alumni Association - Office of UIC Alumni Relations UIC Campus Alumni Advisory Board Summary Document Introduction The University of Illinois Alumni Association established Campus Alumni Advisory Boards (CAAB) on each of the three campuses to assist in furthering the goals of the UIAA and the individual campuses. The CAAB’s do not have legal or fiduciary responsibility for the operations of the UIAA, nor do they set policy. In sum, the Campus Alumni Advisory Boards: 1. Help enhance the relationship alumni have with the university by serving as informed advocates. 2. Advise on ways to advance the goals established by the UIAA, the campus and the university. 3. Provide a forum for interaction between alumni, the UIAA and the Chancellors with regard to campusspecific issues. 4. Ensure adequate communication is maintained through cross-representation on UIAA Board and Board committees. 5. Identify and recommend nominees to UIAA Board and Board Committees. 6. Select recipients of U of I Distinguished Service, Constituent Leadership, Loyalty (and perhaps other) awards for their respective campus. 7. Assist with planning, scheduling and promotion of activities/events for UIC alumni in order to involve other alumni in life of university and mobilize them on its behalf. UIC CAAB Member Desired Characteristics The most effective members would: 1. Exhibit a demonstrated passion for UIC and a strong interest in advancing the welfare of the UIAA and university. 1. Commit time to CAAB and UIAA committee meetings as well as to alumni, university and campus activities/programs. 2. Speak out enthusiastically on behalf of the UIAA, the campus and the University by participating in Illinois Connection initiatives as well as in professional and community organizations 3. Lead by example as sustaining members of the UIAA and in their encouragement of financial support to the UIAA and the university. When possible, direct internship/career opportunities to alumni or have the ability to influence those who can do so. 4. Be knowledgeable in areas which benefit the UIAA and campus such as: marketing and communications, strategic planning, financial resource allocation, leadership development, technology.
