About Us Mastery Charter Schools (MCS) was created to prepare underserved youth for success in postsecondary education and the knowledge-based economy. Our mission is to ensure that all students learn the academic and personal skills they need to succeed in higher education, compete in the global economy, and pursue their dreams. Student achievement is the reason we exist. We strive to eliminate the achievement gap between low-income minority students and other students. Since its inception, MCS has consistently demonstrated strong student performance, halving the achievement gap in math and reading and eliminating the gap in writing. In September 2005, Mastery opened a second school in Philadelphia. The school currently serves 340 students in grades 7-9. Over the next three years, the school will grow to serve 600 students in grades 7-12. In September 2006, MCS opened its third campus in Philadelphia. The school will grow to serve 650 students in grades 7-12. The long-term goal of MCS is to successfully operate a five school system serving 3,000 students.
