University Curriculum Committee Undergraduate Curriculum Change Summary Form Date: 11/19/2014 College and department submitting change: The W.A. Franke College of Business; Marketing Name of Faculty contact (if there are questions about the curriculum forms): Roxanne Stell PO Box 15066 Flagstaff, Arizona 86011 Roxanne.Stell@nau.edu Phone: 928-523-7404 Fax: 928-523-6559 Brief explanation of changes and their relationship to each other: The primary purposes for the changes are as follows: 1. The major requirements were changed to include a modified set of core courses and the requirement of a marketing concentration. Three of the core courses remain, MKT 334, 439, and 494 (formerly 490), consistent with our peer and aspirant institutions. CIS 440: Applied Business Intelligence was added to provide students with current, relevant knowledge/skills and support the college and marketing learning outcomes without creating a new course. A smaller core requirement also enabled the incorporation of two concentrations. 2. Two new courses (MKT 434 and MKT 435) and one reactivated course (MKT 437) are needed for the concentrations. The two concentrations provide students with greater depth of knowledge and relevant skills, allowing marketing majors to select a more focused marketing career path. The concentrations are designed to assist students in their job search and job placement. Additionally, the concentrations provide clearer direction to facilitate recruiting and career development efforts. Marketing for Services and Society Concentration. Course number change from MKT 490 to MKT 494 to eliminate confusion between the Marketing capstone and MGT 490 and more clearly identify this course as a MKT Core course, rather than a FCB Core course.
