Required Lab Manual
All labs are available online.
Grading and Attendance
 The 11 lab exercises count for 20% of your total grade for the course. Your lowest grade will be
dropped and the remaining 10 highest grades will be weighted equally in determining your overall lab
grade.
 All lab exercises are due at the beginning of the next lab period in which they were conducted. Labs
handed in at the end of class will be counted as late. Lab assignments handed in late will be deducted
10% per workday. Additionally, labs will not be accepted more than one week late.
 If you are not able to attend your scheduled lab period please contact your lab TA in advance so
arrangements can be made. The best way to contact TAs is via e-mail, or during lab and office hours.
Under NO circumstances will make-up labs be allowed.
 You are required to attend lab. The off-campus field trips are mandatory; if you do not attend, you
will not be allowed to receive credit for those lab exercises. When going on field trips, dress
appropriately and be on time.
 There will be a sign in sheet during each lab. You can only get credit for a lab if you attend class.
Additional Policies
 You are encouraged to work with other students during the lab. However, you must submit your own
original work. Answers may be similar, but should not be the same. Plagiarism is not acceptable and
if an issue, disciplinary action could be taken by the University. Please ask if you have any questions
about plagiarism.
 Any written responses should be legible so I can read them. If answering an essay question, please
write in complete sentence format. If I cannot read your answer, it will be marked wrong.
 Please bring appropriate materials to the lab: Geosciences text, lab, a calculator (doesn’t have to be
fancy), additional scratch paper, and writing utensils. Please read over the lab exercise before
coming to the lab and ask any questions you might have.
 You will need to turn in your labs to your instructor. We do not accept labs in mailboxes.
