About Us Internationals Network for Public Schools is a non-profit, school and professional development organization based in New York City. Our mission is to provide quality education for recently arrived immigrant students by developing a network of small, public high schools based on the Internationals Approach, our model for developing outstanding schools for new learners of English. The first International High School was founded in 1985 in Queens, New York and as of Fall 2009, there will be twelve International High Schools throughout New York City and California. Our students come from more than 90 countries, speak more than 52 languages, and over 80% come from low-income family backgrounds. As the demand for quality public education for immigrants continues to grow, Internationals will be working to develop more schools to serve more students not only in New York City and California but also elsewhere in the country while building a strong network that will help sustain our schools over time. The Internationals Approach All Internationals schools have similar students, a shared mission, and the same educational philosophy. We believe that schools, as communities of learners, learn best when they are linked in a network where both new and more established schools learn from each other as they continuously improve while educating children around a set of common core principles and structures. Dissemination, governance, and instructional models all share a common philosophical base: learning must be active, personalized, and occur in a collaborative community of learners where each member contributes to the process based on his/her strengths and interests.
