Course contents are listed below. Course will be in combination with a lab session that covers basic skills needed to function as an entry-level athletic trainer. This course will have merit for those considering post-high school careers in medicine, nursing, physical therapy, athletic training and physical education. This course can be taken for dual credit with Ball State University. AT 196-Introduction to Athletic Training Credits: Two Semester Hours/Credits- Lecture & lab are BOTH required. (there is one final grade given) Course Objectives: A. To gain an understanding of the role of sports medicine in the health care setting. B. To gain an understanding of the requirements for BOC Certification. C. To become aware of the job opportunities available for athletic trainers and allied health care personnel. D. To understand basic principles related to athletic training. This will include the 12 Athletic Training educational domains. Required Text: Prentice, W. (2011).
