Transfer Credit Policy and Procedures
All transfer credit must be from accredited colleges or universities, and may include community colleges.
No partial credit courses, i.e. less than 3 credit hours, are transferrable.
Only courses passed with a grade of C or higher are accepted in transfer.
Grades for courses accepted in transfer are not included in the student’s HWS GPA.
It is the student’s responsibility to: a.
provide to the Dean course descriptions for all courses prior to registration b.
obtain the appropriate signatures on a course approval form for each course and return these approval forms to the appropriate Dean’s Office c.
request that an official transcript showing all transfer credit and grades be sent to the appropriate Dean’s Office d.
contact the appropriate Dean’s Office to confirm receipt of your transcript and the decision regarding your transfer request
Hobart and William Smith Colleges do not accept credit for the following course work:
National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS)
Semester at Sea
Online or Distance learning courses
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), per Health Professions Steering Committee [10/9/12]
Hobart and William Smith Colleges accept a maximum of 16 credits in transfer.
(A.P. credits cannot exceed 7. Combined A.P. and transfer credits cannot exceed 16.)
