University of North Texas
Vice President for Enrollment
Since 1890, the University of North Texas (UNT) has been a catalyst for transformation for its students and the North Texas region.
As the nation’s 24th largest public university, UNT is dedicated to providing an excellent educational experience to its 36,000 diverse
students while fueling the intellectual, economic, and cultural progress of one of the most dynamic, fastest-growing regions in the
United States. A student-focused public research university with an emphasis on sustainability, UNT graduated 8,400
students last year from its 12 colleges and schools and offers 98 bachelor’s, 82 master’s, and 36 doctoral degree programs, many
nationally and internationally recognized. The University’s enrollment is about 80 percent undergraduate and 20 percent graduate
students. UNT annually awards more than $320 million in financial aid, including more than $36 million in scholarships. About 78
percent of UNT’s students receive financial aid and scholarships. As Dallas-Fort Worth’s largest and most comprehensive university,
UNT is growing as an emerging nationally prominent research institution focused on providing the best undergraduate education.
The University of North Texas is seeking an energetic individual with demonstrable experience and cutting-edge proficiency in
enrollment management to become the founding Vice President for Enrollment (VPE). The new Division of Enrollment is of strategic
importance to the success of the University, and will afford the successful candidate an opportunity to build a complex, modern
organization with the goals of improving the quality, quantity, and diversity of UNT’s student population. The VPE also will be charged
with maintaining strategic, sustainable enrollment growth. While the Division will be focused primarily on growing strong undergraduate
enrollment and expanding the University’s recruitment reach in Texas and nationally, the VPE also will work collaboratively with others
to expand graduate and international student enrollment and improve overall student retention. The VPE will be a broadly collaborative
partner to other members of the President’s Cabinet, including leaders of the Divisions of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and
University Relations, Marketing and Communications, as well as other University units. The VPE will report to the President. The VPE
will be responsible for developing and implementing the University’s strategic enrollment plan and creating an effective enrollment
management operation by providing leadership and oversight of talented teams in the existing departments of Undergraduate Admissions
and Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. The VPE will work with the President to identify other University units that might be
integrated into the Division to create an effective, comprehensive enrollment management operation. This position also will be
responsible for administrative oversight of functions in such areas as budget, personnel, policies and procedures, and new program
development within the Division of Enrollment. The VPE will be charged with leveraging technology, such as customer relationship
management software, and procedures to manage, improve, and facilitate successful enrollment management. Effectively leveraging
technology includes, for example, developing a 360-degree view of prospective and accepted students, tracking interactions,
deploying communications, managing data, providing excellent customer relations and service, and developing key performance
indicators.
The successful candidate will have nine years of experience, a master’s and/or doctoral degree, and demonstrated progressively
responsible leadership and success in enrollment management. The candidate must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and
abilities: strong understanding of how to employ technology and data to expand UNT’s reach in Texas and nationally; demonstrated
experience in successfully developing, evaluating, and improving recruitment, enrollment, and marketing strategies using a datadriven perspective; proven success in planning, implementing, and continuously improving a comprehensive enrollment
management plan for a large public research university; knowledge of regulatory, professional, and ethical guidelines in enrollment
management and financial aid and scholarships; strong understanding of how to leverage financial aid programs and scholarships to
increase enrollment and retention; extensive knowledge of university policies and procedures related to enrollment management;
demonstrated motivational and leadership skills in the supervision of large, diverse professional and support staff; experience recruiting
students from diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds; commitment to diversity, collaborative environments, and
teamwork; demonstrated initiative and productivity in a complex work environment; strong organizational, analytical, planning, and
budgeting skills; strong presentation, problem-solving, and project management skills; ability to communicate effectively with diverse
populations in speech and in writing; ability to lead and work independently; and the ability to foster a climate reinforcing the
development and success of all students.
Review of applications will begin August 8, 2014 and will continue until the position is filled. A resume with an accompanying cover
letter may be submitted via the SJG website at www.spelmanandjohnson.com under the link Current Searches. Nominations for
