March 26th meeting minutes
Regrets: Stephanie
1) Introduction with Melissa
2) Action Items from last meeting
a) Shanaz confirmed that we can use YCI office address for anything including the mailing of
submissions
b) Tracey and Shanaz discussed the sponsorship letter
i) Drafted
ii) Received feedback
iii) Tracey and Shanaz will submit to various corporations and foundations
c) Shanz submitted the budget – we will receive feedback soon
3) Websites
a) Facebook group is up
b) Myspace – Tracey will post URL, create an actual site to post information instead of just adding
an event to her personal site
4) Location
a) Kristen has experienced communications problems with the contact (i.e. March Break, limited
response from emails)
b) Kristen plans to visit site
c) Prefer 2 day showing vs. long term (i.e. 2 week)
5) YCI suggestions from Shanaz’s conference call
a) YCI suggested BCE place as an alternative – questionable logistics and cost along with exposure
to youth
b) Winning artist and piece should be used to create a postcard which can then lead to a political
writing campaign and further youth leadership projects
6) Selection Committee – potential members:

7) Updates
a) Royal & SunAlliance, where Tracey works, has committed $500 dollars through their doers for
dollars program
b) Review of posters and postcards – Addition of YCI on second poster, change of colors of certain
text
c) Kristen to confirm spelling of Ghandi/Gandhi
8) Printing
a) can be done for free
b) plan to print recruitment posters as soon as possible i.e. within a week or two
c) Event printing scheduled for late April
d) Fewer big and some 81/2 x 11 – opportunity to post longer and in other areas i.e. community
centres  Balance by Paul for printing or potential to print lesser quality on personal access color
computers (e.g. Tracey’s work)
9) Non profit organizations
a) Nurin presented a list related to youth, leadership, arts, etc…
b) Further direction  youth, leadership, arts, GTA or local based
c) Everyone find an organziation that speaks to you, research it and present at next meeting
where we will make a final decision
i) Nurin – Frontier college
ii) Melissa – Jane & Finch media project
10) Consultant
a) YCI has appointed a consultant who we can bounce ideas off for feedback
b) Structured advisor role
c) Jessica Lax who has founded an organization (Ointineda – need to confirm spelling) which works
in Kenya to empower youth through art
d) Shanaz to provide everyone a link to the organizations website
11) Prizes
a) Fortinos – Nurin needs a letter
b) Roots
c) East Side Mario mug – fill and Shanaz can get it made nice
d) Shanaz to approach ROM and AGO
e) Tracey to approach some major bookstores such as Chapters
f) Tracey to meet with Rebecca from her work to discuss other potentials
g) Other examples could be movie passes, art, poetry, etc…
12) Promotions
a) Melissa provided list of contacts she has through Katimavik i.e. council, community centers,
libraries
b) Melissa can look into Toronto Catholic District School Board
c) Nurin can look into Toronto District School Board
d) Ontario College of Art and Design, , Universities, colleges, art schools
e) Shanaz can look into Durham School Board
f) Everyone can participate but Nurin and Melissa will coordinate so we don’t duplicate
g) Melissa to focus on her contact list since those are personal work contacts and we don’t to
disturb that relationship
h) Shanaz to meet with Linday re potential media contacts
13) Next meeting
a) Potential to meet at YCI office (20 Maud Street) – decided it was not as convenient
b) Monday April 16th at 6:30 pm at Journo
14) Separate Proposal
a) YCI presented Shanaz with an opportunity to submit a proposal for a youth conference which
takes place in Edmonton in August
b) Very quick turnaround time (less than a week) but received help from Kristen and Tracey
c) Two proposals were submitted:
i) Art exhibit based on our event to show youth across Canada what Ontario youth are
doing/thinking about
ii) Proposal writing workshop based on Shanaz’s and Tracey’s experience with Kristen’s
expertise in methodology
d) Should hear response by April 15th
