The Victory for Women Program (V4W) is proud to announce an academic scholarship for women with
bleeding disorders commemorating Doreen McMullan McCarthy, a young nurse and loving mother, who
passed away from complications of Von Willebrand Disease in 1979 when she was 25 years old. This
scholarship is named in her honor, and those family members who keep her spirit alive: her mother,
Connie McMullan, her brother, Patrick McMullan, and her son, Jamie McCarthy.
About Victory for Women
Victory for Women (V4W) is NHF’s women’s health program. The goals of V4W are to raise awareness of girls
and women with bleeding disorders both inside and outside of the bleeding disorders community, and support the
development of educational resources and programs for women with bleeding disorders. For more information,

2014 Guidelines
One award of $2,500 each will be granted. These funds may be used to pay expenses related to undergraduate or
graduate studies at a college, a university or an accredited vocational school.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must be female residents of the US AND have a bleeding or clotting disorder diagnosed by a
hematologist.*
*Note: this includes those with a diagnosis of von Willebrand disease, hemophilia, platelet disorder, or other
factor deficiency, carrier status or clotting disorder.
Please do not submit an application if you were previously awarded a scholarship from Victory for Women or
Project Red Flag. Only one award per lifetime.
Application Requirements
Application must include the following completed sections:

2. Essay
3. Personal reference (must be written and signed by a teacher, mentor or someone else
familiar with your personal and academic achievements. Letters written by any relative of
the applicant will not be accepted.)
Eligibility and Selection Process
Applications will be evaluated by a review committee. This scholarship will be awarded based on a complete
application, essay, achievements, and community service to the bleeding disorders community. The winner will
be notified the second week in July, 2014, and will receive funding in the fall after submitting their tuition
bill/statement from the institution they will be attending.

All completed applications must be received by e-mail or postmarked via USPS no later than Friday, June 6,
2014. Applications will NOT be considered unless all materials are received or postmarked by this date.
