ALBERT EINSTEIN COLLEGE OF MEDICINE COMMITTEE ON GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION POLICY∗ RESIDENT ELIGIBILITY/SELECTION Each Residency Program sponsored by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine shall have written criteria for the recruitment and selection of residents. (Template attached). Program Policies must be consistent with the policies of the Sponsoring Institution and the employing hospitals. 1. Applicants eligible for appointment to the residency programs sponsored by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine must be: • Graduates of an LCME accredited medical school in the USA or Canada, • Graduates of an American Osteopathic Association accredited school of Osteopathy, • International Medical Graduates who have a valid certificate from the ECFMG or a full and unrestricted license to practice in a US licensing jurisdiction, or • Graduates of an LCME approved 5th Pathway Program. 2. For advanced training programs, applicants must have completed prerequisite training and be eligible or have completed board certification in appropriate disciplines. (Under special circumstances, e.g. foreign physicians seeking advanced competence who will not practice in the United States, the requirement for “board eligibility or certification” may be waived.) 3. Program must select among eligible applicants on the basis of their preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills, and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity. 4. Residency programs sponsored by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine shall participate in the organized resident matching programs. The Albert Einstein College of Medicine serves as the ACGME-accredited Institutional Sponsor for residency programs based in Montefiore Medical Center (MMC) and in Jacobi Medical Center (JMC). As required by the ACGME, the Committee on Graduate Medical Education of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine has established written policies pertaining to the academic aspects of GME. Residents are the employees of either MMC or JMC. These academic policies are intended to be coordinated with the employment policies of MMC and 1 JMC that relate to the same matter.
