Please note that not all institutions will accept experience as prior learning and that each provider will have its own policy and procedure for assessing prior learning. INS.170.030 Page 2 of 3 2015.11.15 Instructor Diploma Program – Application for Equivalency Guidelines What if I have a Bachelor Degree in Education? Do I still need to apply for equivalency? Yes. Most bachelor of education degrees relate to pedagogy and while much of the information received during completion of an education degree will be useful in an androgogical setting, it may be that your areas of specialty do not translate well to adult learning (i.e. a Major in elementary spelling). It is also possible that someone with an education degree that was achieved some years ago has never actually worked as a teacher. In this case, the learning will be “stale” and the person holding this degree may need to upgrade in order to meet the requirements for the Instructor Diploma Program. How do I complete the Application? 1. Complete the name of your Institution and the Institution Number at the top of the page. 2. Complete the name and position title of the person whose credentials you want to be assessed for equivalency by the Agency. 3. Complete that person’s email address and daytime telephone number. This information will be used for contact purposes if questions arise during the assessment process. 4. Indicate the name of the credential and the learning institution that issued it. 5. Review the learning objectives listed under each course within the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program. Indicate beside each item which course in your training had the same or a similar objective. You will need to attach course outlines for each course you have listed showing the same or a similar learning outcome listed. 6. Sign and date the application. 7. Attach all of the items listed on the Application Checklist. How long will it take for the Agency to assess my credentials? You can expect to receive the Registrar’s decision in approximately 10-12 weeks from the date that the complete application is received by the Agency. What if the Registrar does not consider my credential to be equivalent? If your credential is not considered to be equivalent to the Provincial Instructor Diploma, you will need to upgrade your training by completing the course(s) required to meet the standard. What if I still have questions? You can contact the Agency at (604) 569-0033 and ask to speak to the Manager, Accreditation Standards and Processes who will be pleased to answer your questions for you.
